BMW Lock problem

I've a lock issue on a 320D. It sometimes wont unlock but will deactivate the alarm allowing me use the key to unlock the driver door, leaving the other doors locked. Pressing the internal unlock button doesn't unlock the doors either but after 5-10 mins of driving it sorts itself out.The key is supposed to recharge when the car is running and for the above reasons, I don't believe it's the problem.

Some days there's no issue at all.

Is this a common problem? Any suggestions for a fix?

Using the key in the lock also disarms the alarm so I wouldn't be sure your key is doing anything remotely, unless you're going on the blinking "clown's nose" under the mirror. The fact the internal button doesn't work either suggests it's a car problem rather than a remote communication problem.

You really need to get a diagnostic done to be sure, but even then if the car is behaving when the diag is done, you'll be no wiser. My money is on the general module. Seems to be the common link with locking and alarm related problems. Mine was done a year and a half ago (under warranty thank god) but I was told it would have been €250 for the part and about €150 labour (dealer prices).

If you're in Dublin, AC cars have top end diagnostic kit for BMWs and should be a lot cheaper than main dealers.

Thanks for your reply and suggestion... guaranteed the car will behave under dignostic, but I'll probably get it checked out anyway.

BTW, key in the lock doesn't deactivate my alarm, I've been caught out with this a few times. Only way I know if alarm is deactivated is if internal lights come on after pressing the key button, then I know it's OK to use the key to open the door.. Either way, I agree it's not an issue with the key, but something in the car.

I you open the door with the key and the alarm goes off, just put the key in the ignition and turn to second stage! The alarm will then witch off!
