i hav heard people connect arcade fire with sigur ros, but i could never really listen to arcade fire so i dont know. Tha Dandy Warhols had a huge rivalry with The Brian Jonestown Massacre. You could check them out.

Get your arse onto last.fm, stick in a few tracks or download the software and upload your library. Then get cracking on "My Recommendations" you'll get loads of new artists through there. Even just playing one artist's "station" will set you off streaming loads more genre specific music.

Even my Dad who can barely turn on the laptop uses it to listen to some old school blues he'd never come across elsewhere. Fantastic site.

I actually met Deathcab for Cutie after a gig. Absolutely class! Four song encore, sweet!

Thank you for all the suggestions. I can't wait to check out some of these bands. Of course today is the day that my iTunes is down for some reason.

I forgot to put Feist (is she considered Alternative/Indie?) and The Durutti Column on my original list.

I also listen to tons of electronica (Thievery Corporation, Massive Attack, Moby, Nightmares on Wax, Bebel Gilberto) and am a huge fan of World Music, particularly AfroPop. That is probably why I like Vampire Weekend (it's certainly not their lyrics which I think are very annoying.)

as said your best bet is last fm or try deezer.com (if a song exists you can probably listen to the full version there (stream only)

go to allmusic.com also...each artist has an "influenced by"+"related artists list"... ..
i ended up not listening to a lot of the bands you listed when i figured out and listened to what influenced them.....its like a family tree

    I second Spoon.

    Agree with Vampire Weekend thing...

...Yeah Feist, she's in Broken Social Scene (one of the bands I recommended). Check out Kevin Drew too - he's with them too and released a solo album or two.
    Try Architecture in Helsinki maybe.

If you like Radiohead you'll enjoy Thom Yorkes solo stuff, it's whopper.

    Biffy Clyro.
    Interpol
    Air.
    The Cure.
    MIA.
    Tegan and Sara.
    British Sea Power.

    Was that a joke?

The rest of your list is good.

Thom Yorke's solo stuff is good, and pretty similar to In Rainbows, one of the best albums of last year in my opinion. The Eraser was good, if not as good as Thom's other musical creations.

Fair enough. I don't want to start a debate. I love electronica, but I think Kid A, Amnesiac, and Thom Yorke's solo stuff are dirt. Just my opinion.

No joke. The Eraser and In Rainbows are somewhat similar.

Maybe try some Blondie, The Smiths, The Kinks or some of the Postal Service?

I checked out some of his stuff after seeing your post.. turns out more than the op are gaining from this thread cheers! its good

It took me a while to warm to Yorke's solo stuff, but honest to God, I listen to it more now than I do Radiohead's own these days.

And if you like Thom Yorke's solo stuff, I'd hazard Emily Haines' solo output as being in a not dissimilar vein.

Homerun Homer has the best post in the thread though.

I think I have pretty similar tastes to yourself.

    http://www.last.fm/user/xiiad

Scan through my library or play my library, should be at least a couple things on there that'd suit you. Ignore my tops, they're not always a literal representative..

Also ignore the German stuff.. there's a lot of it.

    Anyway, summary:

We Are Scientists, the Subways, Athlete, Mute Math, Does It Offend You Yeah?, Tegan and Sara, Two Gallants, the Decemberists, Born Ruffians, Explosions in the Sky, the Black Keys, Elbow, British Sea Power, Mew, Bloc Party, Conor Oberst/Bright Eyes, Air Traffic, Bare Naked Ladies, Yeasayer, the Beatsteaks, Jon Foreman, Efterklang, Willy Mason, Rogue Wave, the National, City and Colour, Okkerkil River, Belle & Sebastian, Tokyo Police Club, Cake, Eisley, Sufjan Stevens, Ryan Adams, Duke Special, Tender Forever, Newton Faulkner, The Moldy Peaches, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Mundy, Bombay Bicycle Club, the Cliks, the Whip, the Meligrove Band, 65daysofstatic, This Will Destroy You, Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, amiina, múm, Vincent Vincent and the Villains, Mates of State, Dragonette, A Fine Frenzy...

but most of all, imo the best band I will ever hear of in my lifetime: SIGUR RÓS!

Give the Pixies a listen to. Be amazed if you didn't like em. Try giving Bossanova and Doolittle a listen. Stood the test of time well IMO
