Hi all, not sure if this belongs here or the modding forum ....

I need/want an external hard drive to store all my important stuff but mainly Music, videos and DVDs. At the minute I've only a laptop and storing this stuff on the laptop isn't ideal with the risk of losing the stuff due to droppage or virus and also I'm also eating up the Laptop's hard drive space

So could someone gimme a rundown of my options with external hard drives please ? I'm thinking 150-200 Gigabytes will do me nicely .

Are there hard drives with wireless connectivity ?
If it's not too much extra versus a USB then I might have a look at them.

Where to buy ? I don't know of any online sites for computer gear , can someone point me in the right direction ? Preferably one that accepts Laser cause I don't have a credit card & don't use Paypal.

Are there other issues/specs to take in to account when buying an external HArd DRive ? The OS I'm running is XP btw.

    Cheers for any help :)

    Have a look around here

Just be careful with backing up to a external drive, most people forget to keep a copy rather then to just move it. And external drives are more prone to failure because they are mechanical and get moved around a look. Similar to laptop hard-drives.

A few drives have a backup solution inbuilt.

Other then that, its pretty much just plug and pray.

if you wanted to play that stuff on your TV also, todays IBOOD is not bad

    http://www.ibood.com/ie/en

note in case your not familiar with IBOOD its products are only available for one day and they are typically slow to deliver.

I'd recommend the Western Digital Passport series of drives. Been using them for about 2 years now and I've never had a problem with them.

The main thing I like about 'em is that they're purely USB powered and don't need to be plugged into the mains, so you don't need to bring a load of power cables everywhere with you. They also fit in a coat pocket. You can get 'em on Komplett or in PC World etc.

    That'd be dead handy.

Thanks for the link, I'll have a browse . :)
I don't imagine I'd be moving the drive anywhere , just keeping it in my room with my stuff on it.

I think the Western ones were recommended by a friend before actually. I saw that Dunnes had some Phillips one a while ago and was told I'd get more memory for less cash on the net.
