To be on topic. I came to Motors in early December because I figured it was time to upgrade my car. I got my licence in June and had been driving my trusty old Micra since then (now, before anyone goes off on one - I know their reputation, but that car went up Hard Knott's Pass in the Lake District (look it up it's the steepest road in England apparently) without so much as a complaint - though first gear all the way lol).

I didn't know much about motors, I still don't but I do know a lot more than I did. I stuck around because this is a generally good natured forum, there is relatively little trolling and bs, the mods have a presence but it's more one of participation than discipline which I think counts for a lot, and there is always at least one or two posts that give you a laugh every day. The regulars here seem to know what they are on about, even when they are disagreeing with each other, and I haven't seen any signs of them taking the piss or ganging up on people who ask questions - no matter how simple. Also, it doesn't matter if you are asking about an 8k or an 80k car.

Because of the current economic climate, I think there are a lot of people like me who don't have a huge knowledge about cars, don't have a huge amount of cash, but enough to upgrade and feel this may be a good time. It's win-win, get a good deal and put some money back in the economy. That may be why the forum is so busy. That and some of them are idiots like me who hang around and lurk for the entertainment value.

And as a postscript: I got my upgrade last week. So, while I never actually posted a question, I trawled through the posts and paid some heed. Thanks all for the indirect advice.
