David, There is quite a gang of us doing it

    Dungarvan 10 mile 1/2/09

    Showry
    SUNGOD
    Sosa
    Ike ?
    MCOS
    Hunnymonster
    Abhainn
Woddle (hoping for sub 70 but it might be a month too soon)
    blind_hurler
    Eliwallach
    Orobhsa

I have no time expectations, I'm just doing it as a training run and all my training runs are currently slow.

Yeah,i will be there...i have been looking forward to it for weeks.
I got my race number and chip in the post this morning.
    Bring it on !

Oh yeah ..66:10 is my best.
I am looking for a new PB on Sunday.
65 mins would be a dream ...but realistically even a second under 66:10 and i will be over the moon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,411 ✭✭✭SUNGOD

looking forward to it as well
and will be in the same boat as hunnymonster , i wont be setting a PB just using it as part of a LSR
hopefully the weather will be kind as its a good course if conditions are favourable

Was hoping to score a PB here (sub 75min) but injury has slightly disrupted my training and anything under 80 min I'll be happy() with:(.
In fact completing the race might be a more realistic goal:(:(.
But I'm definitely lining up at the start and we'll see from there...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭blind_hurler

I'll be happy with anything under80mins to be honest plus I'm down with
a touch of flu at the moment so completing is my main aim

Cool great to see many on here attending, will be a great race, hope the weather holds up,i recieved my number and chip this morning in the post,it seems the chip has to be attached to the runner?
myself and a few from kilkenny city harriers are running,i dont want to go too fast for the first few miles,i like to save my energy for the later stages.
record is something like 50mins,amazing time, for me to get a time like that id have to run as if the local gardai where chasing me hahah

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,411 ✭✭✭SUNGOD

hi HM the plan is to do between 15/20 before the dungarvan 10.
prob run that morning then get something light to eat/drink and head to dungarvan its only 30 min from myself and Sosa.
the thinking being that once i get the morning run out of the way it wil be mentally much easier to run with a crowd/race to make up the miles for a LSR
it did made sense to me when i was planning it :D

Easing off the long runs this week. Would think I could go sub 63 but unsure the legs will take me that quick at this time.
Weather forecast looks favourable with prediction of it been dry, bright though cool with easterly breeze.
Got my number yesterday too. No 165. That timing chip is a bit of a dog though.

I'm signed up and hope to make it. Came down with something on Sunday morning and missed Raheny after 6 weeks training for it.Have not done 10 since the marathon though so if i'm there sub 90 will do :o

Just ran a torturous 7 miles at lunch time.:(
Serious doubts about even making the start line never mind the finish line:(

Here's the elevation profile from last year's race, which is only slightly different from this years (they've moved the start and finish - so same overall profile). Looks nice and flat, and speedy! Still hoping to make it on Sunday, hangovers permitting.

hey man, great to find another kilkenny person here, are you with the harriers

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,378 ✭✭✭asimonov

hey! I'm not a harrier, and as of last week i'm strictly boards ac ;-) I was a member of kch as a juvenile way back but got injured and gave up.. and i've really only been running properly again for 6 months now - and loving pretty much every moment of it! i'll be down in dungarvan, my race number is 367 - but your target time is too hot for me...i'm more 70 - 75ish.

BTW - the dubai marathon repeat is on sky sports extra right now.

There was a nasty little pull at the start of the last mile in previous years that I'll be glad is gone this year.

I'm looking forward to this too and hopefully the weather people have it right and the rain will be
gone or we will just be running from puddle to puddle :D

Just wondering if the 12:15 is just for registration or is that for pick up of goodie bags too
also there's a school near the start anyone any idea if the yard will be open??

As this would make for some handy parking....

What type of chip are they using? Is it TDS or Champion Chip?
Aren't the TDS ones attached to the number?

Not champion chip. It's quite a bit bigger than than!

Circular about 2 inches in diamater. It needs to be attached to your shoe. There are cable time in the pack I got.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,051 ✭✭✭MCOS

Just as long a drive from Limerick :)

So, are boardsies meeting somewhere before the race or what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,411 ✭✭✭SUNGOD

just thinking the same as MCOS did we decide on a plan ..where to meet for a chat and what time?
i think showry is the man for this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,453 ✭✭✭showry

Depends on how cold it is I suppose, if it's too cold, inside the sports centre might be best.

There's a used car place at start line and I live 3 houses down from that so I'll be probably milling around there from about 12:30 on anyway, a little baldy chap in a West Waterford singlet if anyone wants to say hello. My race number is 133.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,411 ✭✭✭SUNGOD

sounds good i will prob be in centre first then at car lot at 12:30

it should be signposted but as you come into the town there's a roundabout with a campus garage on your right, take the 3rd exit, at the next roundabout take the 1st exit and drive straight for about a mile until you're passing a church on your right, next right after the church, down to the sea and you're there,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,453 ✭✭✭showry

we might be needing wellies at this rate,
I cycled out a bit of the course today and there's a bit of flooding in parts,
hopefully it'll have drained off by tomorrow but it's STILL fecking raining here.

up the black n' amber! I'll be driving down from Cork with two fellow runners, we haven't registered yet so we'll be hitting Dungravan early to register and have a quick bite before warm-up etc.

I'll be leaving Dublin at 7:30 in the morning. I was suppose to be in Wexford this weekend but my wife forgot about a friends bday tonight. So not the best prep for a race but I plan on getting there early and walking the stiffness out of the legs. Best of luck to everyone tomorrow if I don't see you before hand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,453 ✭✭✭showry

Apologies for not getting to meet with most of ye, we had a wrestling related emergency in the house and the smallest fella ended up in hospital with a broken arm so I wasn't really out and about before the race and was a bit distracted after it.

Delighted with the race, 65:45 according to my watch, not sure of the official time yet. Found the last 3 hard though. That easterly wind didn't help things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭blind_hurler

@showry that's a great time you are right to be delighted

I managed to drag myself around in 83minutes which I'm a little dissappointed with as had hoped to get in under 80mins but I guess for my first run at this distance for three years I can't really complain:D

Thought the race was really well run one of the best I've ever done if they could only have done something with the wind especially in the last few miles then it would have been perfection :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 63 ✭✭DAVID AKA MACKY

68mins i managed today, for my first ten mile race it was good, but not my time i was hoping for, started way to fast and basically lost the energy, but none the less a great race and well organised, congraths to everyone:)
