    Hi all

i have attached a pretty crap painting of what i mean

I am not sure if any one knows the big roundabou on the N2 coming from the city centre.

    The road divides into 3

lane 1 is for exit to the M50 going south bound

lane 2 is for the ashbourne exit

lane 3 is to to right around and back in to the city.

but inbetween lane 2 and 3 there is an exit for the M50 going north bound.

and i cant for the life of me figure out whether i should be in lane 2 or 3

know it is the second exit which to me would mean lane 2 but there is another exit inbetween lanes 1 and 2 for cars coming off the M50.

which might mean that it is the 3rd lane

no matter what lane i am in beep people at me .

on sunday night, i was nearly killed hence the email, i need to figure out where i should be

i was in lane 2 heading for the m50 North exit when two cars in lane three both came cut across me at high speeds beeping for the ashbourne exit

i hope this makes some sense and the diagram helps :o

i really need to sort this out

    thanks

I think that you should have veen in lane 3 entering the roundabout like normal. I dont know the roundabout so it could be altered but thats how id approach it then correct your lane to whichever is needed when you are off the roundabout. Hope that helps.

If you are in the third lane, when you are in the wrong position to take the M50 northbound exit

i think i will just stay in the 3rd lane in future at least that way, no one can cut across me

i always thought that if you were taking the 2nd exit off a roundabout, you stayed in the outside lane (far left lane)

forget about exit number.. it has nothing to do with what number exit you are taking there could be 3/4/5/6 exits up to 12oc still take the left hand ..lane 2 in this case.. lane 3 far right can also be taken for 12oc straight ahead but if lane two is clear you should be in that one for going straight

anything past 12oc you take the far right lane (you are turning right)

    MARK

If your turning right onto M50 northbound you should always go in lane 3, if your going straight for ashbourne you should be in lane 2 or 3 and if your going left for M50 southbound you should be in Lane 1,

Well thats the way I would do it anyway.

Spot on, anything after 12 0clock is the RHS lane, then you move to the LHS lane (if safe check mirror/indicate etc...) at the exit before yours.

Actually as I type this, are you indicating?

haha That might be a problem but i would guess your doing that. It was said above by maceocc2 It is the best way to describe it. If you follow that then you should'nt get mashed by an artic or a heavy loaded roadstone truck or the like!!!:D

For the volume of traffic using them and the fact they are traffic light controlled those junctions are a crap design. They should separate the lanes much sooner and not allow traffic to weave or change lanes once in the roundabout. I have had many close shaves using them and my daughter got pranged when stopped at a light which went green just as a following car came up on her at high speed from behind and yet because of the ambiguity of two adjacent lanes being allowed to go in one direction and merge into one and crap badly worn markings on a a muck covered badly lit road it was hard to blame either party for the accident.
Liffey valley junction from N4 is also a crap design as is the exit road from Access road to B and Q's onto the liffey valley centre road.
The only way to exit that abortion of a junction is to stay well back until the main road is clear and then approach the entry point at high speed. Coming to a dead stop at the end of that point puts you in exactly the blind spot of most cars and makes getting out dangerous. You have to turn your back around too sharply to get a good view otherwise.
Also the engineer who designed the exit onto the N4 westbound from Woodies junction should have been shot. It needs an accelleration lane badly.
Others exist where Bus Lane markings are put down at 20 meters from the entry point of the junction, are we expected to shoot out in front of cars doing 80-100 kph in order to avoid using the Bus lane????? At quiet times when traffic is fast and dangerous I use the Bus Lane as an accelleration lane. I won't be forced out into high speed traffic just to keep a cop happy.
Lastly why do the let bushes overgrow yield and stop signs????? I nearly ran out into a heavily wooded roundabout in Dundrum because of the overgrown shrubbery blocking the warning sign and the yield sign................

LOL, of course i am indicating.:p people who dont indicate in aroundabout should be public humiliated, put in the stocks i say.

it is nightmare of aroundabout, hmmm maybe i will just stop using that RA and find an alternative to getting on to the M50 but will stay left which then bring the problem of being milled out of it by the people in the LHL coming on to the M50 :rolleyes: the road engineers in this country shuld be ashamed of themselves
