For anybody in the retail end of the motortrade you probably know this already but for thoses who are not then listen up. Due to the fact that no customers are coming in to buy new cars the distributors have been forced to slash prices. Most are in the form of Reg bonuses to the dealers which the dealers are passing on in the hope of selling cars. Here are some examples : Peugeot 407 Diesel ..€6,000 off, 407 1.8 Petrol ..€8,000 off, new Peugeot Vans ( depending on model) up to €11,000 off. Even the small ones have a couple of grand off. All these are on top of normal discounts. Renault are doing something similar : Clios €1,500 off , Laguna Diesels € 3,000 , Master Vans €4,000. Again these are on top of normal discounts and further discounts can be got for fleet buyers. I know that Toyota are doing something similar , the exact details of which I just dont know but I was told by a fairly reliable source that some of them are been offered at below cost price. I hear Opel are at it too, again I dont have exact deals but im sure someone here can bring us up to speed.

I know Renault are doing it with certain models alright. Peugeot are also at it. Ford have cut the price of the Kuga, Nissan witht the X Trail, Jag with the XF and X type, Saab with the 93.

I havent heard anything from Opel, i checked prices for an Insignia today and they havent changed as far as i know, but i'll check tommorow.

You are right - if you have the money, or can get finance, then there are bargains to be had.

Toyota have done it with the old Avensis, but i havent got pricing on the new Avensis from our dealer yet so i dont know how they stack up.

Yeah im going to ring a friend of mine tomorrow in an Opel dealer, try to find out whats happening. People just dont know the value out there in some dealers at the moment. I have to admit that the value in a new Passat or the like still is'nt matched down here yet but Id say its coming. VW dealers are really hurting. What I cant understand is that stuff that is no value is streaming over here too. I was behind a 2002 2.4 Camry import yesterday ,a Saab 9-3 the day before and a 01 Vauxhall Corsa this morning. WTF like ,that stuff is worthless here. Why bother bringing that in. PS €10,000 off the Espace.Forgot that one.

The man from Toyota head office told me today that they are giving large cash back incentives on their cars to stir a change in the market.

If we wait long enough the Audi forum member will come on and tell us all. I doubt the miserable sh*t Audi dealer near me will put any of his prices down EVER. He had a sign up saying late opening Thursday and Friday till 7pm. Who-Hoo!

I'd expect that, whatever BMW do, Audi will follow.

I don't know of anything in the pipeline, there was a price increase in December and Audi UK have just put through a price increase too, so I wouldn't hold my breath for a price decrease.

BTW, price decreases are really bad news - only people buying straight get the advantage. Everyone who already owns a car gets their second hand price stood on, and dealers lose more equity on the cars they have in stock.

But it should stop the tide of people going to the UK to buy if they come down enough. If they are sold cheaper here or in the UK it makes no odds, used values are just going to drop anyway.

I doubt it will stop the tide of people going to the UK simply because most of them are buying second hand not new. Dealers here need to get some sort plan in place to stimulate the second hand car market here too.

I like alot of folks I would imagine have a car to trade, I am not interested in a new car or even buying one at a straight deal with a discount from the manufacturer. But I cannot buy a used car from a dealer here because in most cases either they don't want a trade in or simply look for silly cost to change money.

Before if I seen a used car on a forecourt that I was interested in I would venture in and see what kind of money it would be costing to trade up. These days I give forecourts a wide berth altogether as I simply know I am going to be quoted silly cost to change prices. If it wasn't so tragic it would be funny that my car seems to suffer the most from the current market conditions than the used car for sale on a forecourt.

I think the Opel deal is a trade in allowance (scrappage?) against cars coming back. It's about €1,000.

Peugeot are trying to get rid of the current model 407 hence the bonuses - facelift model coming soon. Similar to what Lexus were offering on the IS as the facelift was launched yesterday, or maybe today.

One of my dealers mentioned Ford have a similar deal on the Focus at the moment, but it's only on the 1.4 as they can't shift them.

Saab 9-3 diesels now start from under €30k.

Having looked at both marques (New) in November/December, I doubt Audi "have to" do anything now.
Fine line up, the A4 is stunning,A6 not far behind, and both very well priced v comparitive BMWs. Audi "only" 35% down on the 20 day registration figures while other were down by up to 90%.

I contacted my dealer (a Saab main dealer) about the reduced 9-3. He told me with charges it comes to just shy of €31k, not the 29,995 in the papers.
I have an allowance of €28k and he won't come lower than €30k, and he's screwing us on the trade in!
He's sold zero Saab's so far, think he'll come back to me with a better offer?

I'm still waiting on my dealer to come back with discounts after the price cut. It is possible that he gets charged more than €28k from OHM (the importer) for the vehicle, as dealer margins have been slashed.

It's all well and good slashing prices off new, but just try and trade a car in. I got a quote on a new car last weekend, 13k less than I bought it for 18 months ago.

Edit. I do understand that I will never get the value I place on my car and I take this into account when trading, but I would haev expected another 3 - 5k than offered. Then again, Mondeos lose value like there is no tomorrow.
