I cannot get onto Nat Type 2.

Ok, I've been all over the Internet, Sticky on top of this thread, You Tube,
Playstation forums etc still no joy -
    http://portforward.com/networking/static-vista.htm
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netopia/2247-02/PS3_NAT_Type_3_to_2.htm (By the way this router looks totally unlike my eircom 2247-02)

I've opened up so many ports on my router, I'm afraid I'll be hacked to death.
I've set up a static IP address for both laptop and PS3.
I've enabled UPnP on both router & PS3.
Turned off and on Routers & PS3s, Still no joy still Nat Type 3!!

I can get Nat Type 1, but I don't want this as I still want to do Media streaming to my tv. In any case Nat Type 2 is what I'm after.

Can someone please post a walkthru. Cheers

it is but when you pppoe eircom router to get nat1, you block other devices on your network, you cant stream to ps3, i have same problem, but ive learned to live with it, gaming over streaming any day !
but i hope you get the answer your looking for, it would help me also !! :D

one of the lads over at my clan forum posted this, if you can get anything from it ??, double Dutch to me !!!
Yep -it's because your doing the PPPoE with your PS3.
That's effectively bypassing the router and getting the public IP Address. It will prevent u communicating with other stuff on your LAN, and probably prevents your PCs, etc., getting to the internet when the PS3 is on (but maybe you can have 2 public PPPoEs happening).
To use uPNP AV servers you need to be on local lan with uPNP enabled on router. The uPNP is needed to discover the media servers.

When you connect via PPOE you are connecting to the net the exact same way your router connects. The PS3 is not on your network at all but bypassing it to get a direct connection and is not firewalled, hense NAT1. The eircom routers do allow 2 devices to connect via this method at one time so you can use a PC and a PS3 at the same time (keeps the wife happy when I play).

For media server you need NAT2 or 3. This requires the PS3 to open ports using UPnp (universal plug and play). But the eircom routers are not compatible with the PS3 for UpnP. Therefore NAT2 is not possible on the eircom routers. I had a 3347nwg and now have a 2247nwg (with the PS3 network compatiblilty....supposedly) and it is not possible.

When you connect to your network the PS3 is viewable by other devices on the LAN and info can be shared such as media files happily. But with the eircom router only gives NAT3 to the PS3 because it is restricted by the firewall. If the router was uPnP compatible then this would not be an issue.

The only solution is to ditch the eircom router and buy another with DMZ (de-militarised zone) capability. This way the PS3 will be on your network but also uneffected by the firewall. This should give NAT2.

I think that should explain it BOBBY !

    Cheers

Damien360. Thank you for your detailed response. No longer will I spend time at this futile quest. Nat Type 2 I wish you adieu.
