Road tax for Jan-Jun 08 car

    Sorry if this has been asked before, but a quick search didn't offer a suitable answer....

    If I import a car from the UK that was originally registered in the 1st half of 2008 (so as not to incur a VAT import change), what road tax band will it fall under?

    I'm hoping that for cars first registered in the 6 months prior to the new CO2-based rates introduced in July that you get charged whichever is the lower of the rates when you compare the CO2 one vs the old engine size one?

    I'm looking to get a 2.0 diesel, so the CO2 based rate will be a lot better for me (€447 vs €614 :eek: )

    It all depends on the car.

    What car is it? What engine size is it? Is it manual or auto? Estate or saloon?

    Motor tax depends on the Co2 Emmisions of a 08 car now, but each car has a different CO2 figure.

    You'll be able to opt for €447 road tax (CO2 based).

    Drummerboy08: I've already looked up the bands the car could be in based on it's official CO2 rating or official engine size (hence the prices I quoted). My question was whether a 1st half 08 car will be charged the CO2 rate or the engine sized rate.
