Social Welfare Checks?

    Hi all,
Newbie to boards, so go easy on me!

Just a quick query with regards social welfare. I am about to finish in my job, which is unfortunate but unavoidable really.
I am just wondering how the welfare check whether I was fired/resigned/let go and what the implications are? If I have no letter stating I was laid off do I not qualify?
I have pretty much been in some form of employment for the past 4 years - expect for a 10 week period last year when I received social wefare payments.
I dont want/plan being unemployed for long - but in this climate who knows?!

    Thanks for all/any info.

Your current job should be giving you a P45 on leaving, and if your being made redundant then you should be getting an RP50 as well.

That and some form of ID was all that I needed to give them on signing on for the first time this morning.

Thing is I'm actually leaving of my own accord, for personal reasons, and although I'm getting a P45, I wont be getting a RP50. So just wondering if me turning up at the dole office with a P45 and no letter will be ok? Or will I be laughed at?!

You won't be laughed at Isa, but you will more than likely have to wait for 9 weeks before you recieve any payment. In cases where people voluntarily leave their jobs the Social Welfare defers payments for up to 9 weeks. How long they delay yours, if at all, will depend on your circumstances.

Yep depends on the deciding officer and the reason you put on your application form. If the DO thinks you a left a job for no valid reason, you'll stopped your first 9 weeks. Or you may be called in for an interview to explain to the DO you circumstances.
