advice, been a regular at the gym 4 days a week for years, doing spinning,
pilates and walking/running. but over the past few weeks i have lost my motivation and have not been going to the gym. I feel exausted and even when I dont feel tired I have lost my motivation and interest in going. any advice on how to get back on track.

Why did you start going to the gym in the first place?

    Hi SD,

I know how you feel! I have been training for many years and not so long ago my motivation dropped and for me, it was down to the fact that I had reached most of the targets I had set myself and once I had...I felt lost, demotivated and tired. Yes, I was keeping fit, and staying in shape but I felt like I needed to push myself harder but wanted to enjoy my training at the same time.

Alot of your training seems to be very individual based. Would you perhaps think about taking up a team sport i.e. kickboxing or the likes. You will be be mixing with other people and have the benefit of setting targets within that area, or maybe even partaking in sparring sessions (you will always want to improve yourself in this area)...and then you can base your training regime around that particular sport as well as keeping up your spinning etc.

    Worked for me anyway!

I'd be demotivated too if I did four years of pilates and walking.
Get out and try something new. Go to the weights room and/or take up a sport like box off mentioned.

Set yourself goals e.g. take part in a competition, break a certain time / weight / position in a race, take up a new sport, etc.

Read the fitness logs on both this forum and the marathon / triathlon forum. Seeing the types of things which other people train for may trigger something.

naos i've been a member of a gym for over 10 years i like to keep fit, and like to excerise in general, i also like to keep in shape and find it improves my mood. i do vary my routine i never said i was doing pilates or walking for 4 years, i only took up pilates 6mts ago, and i do spinning, jogging and swimming too. i am just asking if anyone else had lost there motivation and how they got back into it. thats all.

Thats all well and good SunnyD, I was only asking as sometimes people have a reason to start working out.

Yours could have been a set goal, say - run a marathon. If you dont and achieved that, your goals may have become stagnant. So think back to why you started and maybe change some goals around.

Hi Sunnydelight, I totally empathise with you. i can't put my finger on it but since before the holidays I have been absolutely drained, tired, its just not there, Im wondering if there's something in the air, you know between flu's and winter bugs doin the rounds you'd wonder.

I did notice only subtle changes mind, that I had reduced my intake of vitamins and minerals during those months,- I normally would be very consisent in that regard. So maybe!!

Im forcing myself to go to the gym recently, I don't like it, like that, cos to me if you have to force something, somethings is off.:(

youre not alone, hope you find your mojo soon!!

    peace and love

I agree with those who have said, set yourself a new goal. It gets very boring going to the gym day in day out if it feels like it's for nothing.
