I'm on my second set of 16x55x205 Pirelli P6000 tyres. The first set lasted about 35000 miles and give good grip. I paid around €85 - €90 per tyre, a bit expensive but worth the money.... I found the smaller tyre shops quoted a cheaper price than the bigger establishments...

You can calculate the profile of the new tyres so that the overall diameter of the new and old wheels match.

Its good to have them matching so that speedo is not affected, ride height, etc etc...

I had a GTi for over 4 years and had Pirellis on it for 3 of those and found them excellent as the above poster stated. Plenty of grip and long lasting. That would be my recommendation.

Yep pirelli are good. 195/65 15 is probably whats on now so 205/55r16 would be the same.

Recently bought R32 Alloys for my MK 4 GTI and I now have nowhere I can keep the old ones. They are 16" BBS Montreal Alloy wheels to fit any Golf or Bora between 1998 and 2004, and the original MK iv Golf Alloy. They are in perfect condition, not curbed AT ALL. The tires are practically new on them, alot of thread left. No cuts or grazes and the size is 205/55/R16.
Would be willing to take €350 for them, moving house next week, cannot bear the thought of lugging these with me.:(:);):P
