    Car crashes through church roof

    Associated Press

Police say a German man was seriously injured after losing control of his car that flew off the road and crashed through the roof of a church.
Police in the eastern state of Saxony say the car crashed through a guard rail at high speed on Sunday then up an embankment.

Police said Monday the embankment acted like a ramp, launching the car into the air and into the roof of a nearby church.

A special rescue vehicle had to be called in to free the driver from the roof seven yards (meters) above the ground. The 23-year-old driver is in a serious condition. Police did not release his identity.

Good heavens. That embankment doesn't look much anyone guess the speed needed to make that happen?

In another article it says that this happened right in front of a police patrol car that was waiting at a red traffic lights.

    distance: 30 m
    elevation: 7 m
    ramp height: 1m
    ramp angle: 45 deg
mass of the car: 1200 kg

    speed: ??

According to this doohickey, anything over 21m/s (75.6km/h) seems to be able to hit 7m high at 30m range.

    Surprising slow.

Just goes to show what massive forces there are at play ...or how used we have become to them that we would call a +1 ton object at 75/80 km/h "slow"

Maybe the driver will do a Vectra and blame the ramp/church/god and say its was their fault :D

    Go-go gadget turbo boost!

Jayus, he must have been fcukin 'flying'...was lucky to land on the roof & not into the wall of the church.

His insurance won't cover acts of God. :)

I'm not so sure, that's 76km/h at the point of lift off - at the top of the ~45 degree ramp. I'd say it would have had to be going quite a bit faster on the flat to get through the barrier and up the embankment at that speed.
