Mis-coloured HID

    Hey folks,
I have aftermarked HID projectors in the car for about a year now, and Ive just noticed the past week or so, that the right projector is showing a slight greenish haze. I thought the reflector was mis-aligned, and throwing off the light, but its not. All seems ok. Anyone any ideas on it? Is it just simply that the bulb is coming to the end of its life?

    Thanks

The colour emitted with HIDs are related to the temperature of the bulb. An off greenish or faded white/blue haze would indicate the bulb is nearing its end of life. How long HID bulbs last depends on power on and off useage as they suffer most of their degradation during the start-up phase - once running they are quite efficient, standard ones can cycle upto 2,500 times.

Obviously this 2,500 figure depends on the quality of bulb, vibrations, ballast, etc, etc. Most non OEM aftermarket kits - if those H4/H7 replacement types - are of relatively poor quality and can suffer from manufacturing defects or design problems which will sorten the life of the bulb.
