Not related to any of the genres you mentioned but some quality German horrors include

    Nekromantik
    Nekromantik 2
    Schramm
    Ostermontag
    Der Todesking
    Das Komabrutal Duell
Premutos - some of Olaf Ittenbachs other stuff is also worth tracking down too.
Some of Andreas Schnaas' work is also pretty good - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andreas_Schnaas#Filmography

If you want German film drama then Fassbinder is king.

Watched Die Welle last week. It's a good movie with some interesting subject matter also, especially considering Germanys supposed sensitivity to the issues it deals with.

I couldn't help when watching that film thinking that they(the writers/director/producers) were trying to jump that German guilt over WW2 onto the current generation which seemed like it was going to be the first generation of Germans since WW2 not to self-flagellate.

Other than that it was interesting and I'd count it as Drama.

    Action:
    Lola Rennt

    Drama:
    Die Welle
Die Fetten Jahre Sind Vorbei (My favourite German Film by far)
    Das Leben Der Anderen
    Der Untergang
    Sophie Scholl
    The Edge of Heaven(Certainly)

    Comedy:
Goodbye! Lenin(I'm doubting comedic merits though)

    Coming of Age:
    The Edge of Heaven(Maybe?)

I really liked Schlaraffenland, I did see it awhile ago though and haven't seen any other german film.

Yeah same here, it felt like the overall message was
so you think only your parents would allow Nazis to take over? Think again, your bebos and facebooks could turn YOU into a Nazi...

I saw Kirschblüten (Cherry Blossoms) a while back when the IFI had a German film festival - a lovely film. A drama, with comedic elements. Some gorgeous shots and a beautifully handled story.

As others have said, Das Experiment, Goodbye Lenin!, Das Leben den Anderes and Der Untergang are all excellent movies too.

In addition to what's been mentioned...

Anatomie and Anotomie 2 are good horror/thriller movies.
Kein Ohr Hasen is a decent chick flick.
Das wilde Leben is a good movie about the life of Uschi Obermaier

Really liked Antikörper / Antibodies. Guess you could call it a psychological drama.

Realistically, is goodbye Lenin! more a comedy or a drama? I'm torn.

'Gegen die Wand' is a good film - kinda dark and depressing though....:D

Goodbye Lenin is a good Dramedy?? I think Comedy is apt but either suits.

My favourite German drama is The Lives of Others.

I see nobody threw in Perfume though I don't know what category it might fit into. I know it's got American and English actors but it was German made, the most expensive German film to date.
