O.k. folks apart from Frank Keane flogging UK imports at inflated prices would anyone like to name and set up some links to other dealerships that are also importing and selling UK imports?

I presume he's trying to find SIMI dealers that stock UK imports. Double standards and all.

Laughing all the way to the bank? Are you living in Ireland or somewhere else, because the last time I looked, the Motor Trade had been hemorrhaging staff left right and center.

This is all a bit torch and pitchforky. If you want to name SIMI dealers who are doing this fine, but do your own research and make your post. Don't just base it on another post and then tell others to do the work for you. Seems pointless really.

I think the point is that SIMI have been "warning" buyers about buying ex UK cars saying that its isnt safe, warrarty etc. When some of their members are doing exactly that and making substantial profits on it. One example of such a SIMI dealer is below

19k for a old shape 04 half leather 180bhp Audi TT!

Nothing wrong with dealers importing and selling on used cars - if you can't beat them, join them. At least it gives the dealer some cash flow.

    Thanks for the post!

I think it would be of interest to let this thread grow organically

If anyone would like to highlight the good value from main dealerships selling UK imports I would be happy to see them listed

If anyone would like to name and shame please do, there is room for all!

The problem here in my opinion is not Irish dealerships selling UK imports. The problem is the SIMI getting up on people's back about a problem that simply does not exist to any large degree. I don't see many yellow plate cars driving around to be honest and I live in Dublin.

The problem here is that the SIMI and it's membership need to start some kind of an open and frank discussion with regard to the problem that the industry is now trying to cope with, and in particular with regard to why the public is now so hostile to the industry. I said it months ago, what the SIMI should have done last October/November, was to hire a venue like the INEC in Killarney or some large conference venue, and allow some real discussion and innovative thinking to emerge from the floor. There are some seriously talented people in the industry, who are genuine innovators and have spent their whole careers trying to raise the bar in the industry, but unfortunately within the SIMI vested interest framework, they cannot be heard.

So far, all we've seen from the SIMI in terms of leadership has been what I could only describe as the worst TV advertisement campaign I think I have ever seen, and a back office snitching campaign regarding yellow plate drivers that has had no appreciable effect whatsoever, other than to p*ss off the public even more.

There are two separate issues at play here.

Individual dealers buying and selling cars from wherever to whoever at whatever price ...which quite frankly is their business (in both senses of the word)

And then there is SIMI in all their ineffectiveness and hypocrisy.

Both of the above are not necessarily one and the same. Not every SIMI dealer necessarily agrees with the current SIMI "strategy".

I don't think this thread will lead anywhere constructive.
