Hi,

Jus looking for advice or opinions from people in the know about cars really. My situation is im movin to portlaoise from dublin in about a months time and need to upgrade my car(currently drivin 01 corsa). So basically want to know wat people would recommend as a good economical car that could handle 400-500miles per week and good on diesel.(currently workin on the longmile road) Would like to spend in the region of 6000 but could go slightly higher or lower if the car was right. im not bothered wat the car looks like all i really want from it is reliability and good on diesel.

Avensis 2.0 D-4D 00-03 type would fit the bill, plenty power, comfy and reliable.

Avensis would be good, I would be looking at Mazda 6,Octavia myself.

You could go a different route and get a very cheap petrol like a Baleno, Primera, Carisma etc.

Carisma for 900 = 38mpg or so vs Octavia 4000 50mpg.

If you do 25k a year you will spare 700e on fuel with Octavia, but then road tax on Octavia is 539e compared to 414e on Carisma, that means you only spared 575e.

If you drive for 4+ years Octavia will work out cheaper.

Aren't they the same as the ones in the Focus/Mondeo or is that just the newer models?

thanks lads,
was looking at avensis, octavia and passat alrite also noticed the vectra 2.0diesel seen a 04 for 4500 which looked a good deal had 78000 miles on the clock. not really in the know about wat type of car to get tho thats why i need the advice:D

nope, the old model ones were different.

Mazda 6 does not use any diesel engines from Ford, PSA or anyone else. They are all Mazda units.

id suggest peugeot 406 hdi like the ones above. very comfy and a bullet proof diesel engine

Mondeos are good to drive, reliable and reasonably affordable second hand. They're well able to handle higher mileage too.

6k means the price you buy anyway for a start, not the asking price. If it was me I'd be thinking something along these lines:
