I heard this on scrubs and was wondering whether it is true or a myth?

It happens sometimes. Not that big of a deal.

In 5 normal deliveries I've attended it happened once.

    Yep, it certainly does happen.

Just to say, sometimes babies poo in the womb too before they're born, particularly if they're overdue or baby is in some sort of distress.

    Again, it's no big deal.

Yup tis true, the type of pushing can result in similar pressure causing this to happen. Sometimes they give women an enima beforehand (according to my mother) so it doesn't happen *during* birth

My friend is a midwife and someone did it during a water birth. She spent about 10 mins chasing it round the bath with a sieve, trying to scoop it out. Nice.

depends if a guy is awaiting the wonderful site of a baby's head and instead see's one of a large brown turtle coming his way it might very well be a big deal...

it's a good warm up for the placenta tho :P

It depends on the man (or boy).

Who said anything about liking it? Embee just said it's not that big of a deal, and it's not. It's just something natural that may or may not happen during childbirth. No biggie.

It depends on who's doing the looking (man or boy) being my point.

Pherekydes and ntlbell, take this tit for tat guff elsewhere please. disssco if you've nothing vaguely intelligent to add, AH is at your disposal. Only warnings.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
