for all ye Science fiction prop airsoft collectors...

okay since i know i am not alone here.....i am the bearer of some good news for the Aliens heads...

the a56 smartgun possibilities just got a bit easier and i dare say cheaper...

what the hell is a a56 smartgun?

The gun is mounted on a servo-assisted gyro-stabilisation arm attached to an armoured torso harness. The weapon has an inbuilt smart-targeting system, consisting of a targeting processor in the harness, infrared sensors in the headset and above the barrel of the gun, and the gyro-balancing servo arm. When a target is designated through the headest and barrel sensors, the servo arm immediately moving the gun to track the target. Changing targets is done simply by directing the gun toward a new target. The electronic pulse action allows great control over the rate of fire of the weapon, which is controlled by a toggle switch on the fore grip. It can fire a four-round burst (3-round burst r) and has a full-auto fire mode of 60 rounds."
(forgot the website i copied that from)

okay it does that in the movie....but you can always dream...

    why cant i buy it?

well you can make it but you would need to be a lotto winner until now. THe movie used a real life camera component called a steadicam. The steadicam counterbalances the weight of a camera and allows all those sweeping camera shots when moving. unfortunately a steadicam rig costs big money, anywhere from 5 to 10 grand and up. until now...

ladies and gentlemen....i give you the beginning of cheaper alternatives from china

    http://www.frankiestudio.net/en-stabilizer-slide-d32-arm.htm

    slide-d32-Stabilizer-arm-1.jpg

now you will also need the vest from this site and obviously the vietnam frag vest to hide it...

apparently this crowd will be selling the gear for a lot under the real price, rumour has it around 1000 to 2000 dollars range
now add to that the almost upon us china made mg42, add the a56 molding and bingo....the a56 molds are available of if you want to be true, you can always get the motorcycle parts that made the original...

current plans for meself (modification of pulse rifle)

i have the g&p built thompson pulse rifle replica. the next step is to add a gas based shotgun. now the bad news is i will have to gut a quite expensive shotgun as it uses charged gas shells (thats a good thing) thereby freeing a lot of space in the underslung spas12 cage. The bad news is i cannot find anyone selling cheap spas12 cages and grips or come to think of it even expensive spas12 cages and grips. i am guessing this will be a 2 year job but will allow for a more realistic racking of the fake nades.

job 2: morita carbine from starship troopers

I currently have a resin kit of this but i need a ruger airsoft for it to be a possibility, and a m870 airsoft shotty for the trooper model (same as the airsoft one as it happens). This is on the long finger for the moment...

anyone else doing anything related to scifi models??

Good thread man, I will be keeping an eye on your progress here for sure. Especially in relation to the Morita, I have seen the fibreglass shells come up the odd time but have enough projects on the go so i will have to settle with watching and stealing your idea :P

Theres a few threads over on the AL about adding an airsoft shotgun to the pulse rifle but if you want a cheap enough but good upgrade might want to give matsu a shout, got one of the cut down 870's (alu-resin and metal) and its rackable for the most part. Not sure how it will fair with the G&P spas cage tho as I had to expand the real steel cage at certain points to allow it to fit inside.

Best of luck with it man, i will be keeping an eye here :) (great find for the smart gun btw)

i think so but without the mag inserted so there is another challenge how to get it to fire without a mag lol

I have a resin model of the Peacekeeper Pistol from Farscape. It needs to be painted.

That will do for the moment, but in the long term I'd hope to fit a NBB pistol into one. Maybe with a pen-sized laser pointer in the cylinder on the starboard side (though I'd prefer it to be only a Class II for show, even a 5mW laser can cause problems if someone's wearing glasses). Might have to wait a while though, with all these expeditionary games coming up.

There's a short mag available for it too, it sits flush with the base of the magwell so it wouldn't be really noticeable.

I've done a fair few non-specific rifle mods into sci-fi-esque pieces for a couple of lads who did short movies. It's great what you can do with a couple of ne555's, some LEDs and a smegload of epoxy, aluminium and nylon. I haven't tried mimicing ones from other movies yet as the Pulse Rifle never held huge interest for me as a kit. I never thought of the Morita though, that's one I would be very interested in. There's been a few rifles from games that I've considered doing which I may revisit if I get time. The Infinity Modulator from Voyager: Elite Force and the Flechette rifle from C&C Renegade being another.

There is an airsoft Sterling L2a3 available, its made by Asahi. They have gone out of business and it is next to impossible to find one for sale though. Which is a shame because it is a unique and great looking gun.

    Edit:- Starship Troopers airsoft rifle.

    /dribbles at M56 prospects

All I need now, besides a couple of grand, is the M2019 pistol (not the snub-nose variant that got released recently). And you should all know what film that pistol is from.

Oh, and a trench-coat to go with the pistol :D

have you seen attack ships on fire on the shoulder of orion?

the skin jobs are everywhere....!!! yes indeed a great movie and a great great sci fi weapon. to be honest, its one that you could argue is cooler then the pulse rifle, thats heresy i know, but there you have it. there is a website where a guy made one from the real weapon parts....i will try hunt it out -- because if the airsoft equivalents are there, it might be possible to make one.....now there is a project...

i kinda gathered you would be interested in the smart gun stuff...!!!! LOL

kwalsh000, matsu...jeasus, if its the same guy (Matt) thats a blast from the past...i got the shoulder light from him for my aliens kit!!! he is a really excellent caster for parts, big gun and airsoft nut as well, knows his stuff and a really nice guy.... what a small world...i assume AL is aliens legacy board??... jesus (a) is that still going (b) there were some really uptight people on that board who really needed to get out a bit more. i thought i was aliens mad until i chatted with some of them...just wow...by the way if you are going to buy off that board, ping me, there is one complete shafter who used to post there and you should avoid like the plague. most of them are really excellent, got a lot of gear off there, really first class stuff.

now onto the real question....er...did you say real steel??? as in a real steel spas 12 cage, as in the fecken holy grail for aliens nuts!!???? where in the name of all that is holy did you find that !!!  i have been hunting on and off for fecken years for one of them, ...did you get the grip as well???

some websites i have used (past performance is no guarantee of future success)

www.spaceart.de (careful if in work, he sells a lot of dodgy resin figures)

he used to sell the morita (i got mine there) but doesnt appear to any more

he does sell this however..Lemming (just for you)

    http://spaceart.de/produkte/al150-e.php

    al150-a.jpg

that is a kit . he is charging 1750 for a G&P build of a pulse rifle...thats seems way overboard to me but perhaps the nade is working.

i would like to warn you of mim, i had uite a bit of trouble with them. they used to have a policy of accepting payment, then saying out of stock and then telling you it was always next week. just my experience

i have a few more that i can hunt out. quite a few of these are airsoft ready so watch out if they are selling them for the old 1JOULE requirement.

Spot on Fallschirmjager, the same Matt. Some top quality stuff floating around the aliens legacy, think spat is going to be doing a flame thrower aswell so should be a bit of craic :p Ha, i know what you mean , some really obsessive people there but it seems to have eased up alot in the past while and alot of new members. Did you get the shoulder lamp to go with some spat armor?

he he, yup real steel..was one of the more pricey parts esp when you factor in the block needed to attach it to the barrel but well worth it. Got both the cage and grip from sidewinder, think he still has a few left at the moment. If you are interested pop on over there are a few going. Also got a metal stock, barrel vent and front block for the cage from one of the lads there, Phil i think, and top quality and worth it. Infact..all i need is a set of shrouds and a thompson and i have another pulse rifle :P

jeasus, most excellent news!! saviour dude, absolute saviour...

i have spats armour but i need to bolt on the clips for it. thats where it needs a lot of support as it vacu formed and the plastic would not support it IMHO. its easy enough to do however.

edit: and yet again fate gives me a wet bitch slap...he is sold out...FFS....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭kwalsh000

Ah bad timing! Sure he normally gets a run of them every now and again, I got mine in a run a while ago. Sent you a pm there aswell.

Once you get the armor together post up a pic, thats the next project so will be interesting to see how you worked it.

This thread actually reminded me of two, which I completely blanked on including in my last post. The names escape me, but they're obviously mock up weapons anyway. Two rifles carried toward the end of Serenity (I don't recall them featuring in the Firefly series).

The first one looks to be some form of AR18 with a perforated heat shield. It's fairly simple looking but that receiver isn't made by anyone so it'd be a custom job most likely, unless I could mod an M16/4 receiver to suit.

The second is used right at the end in the final fire fight with the Reavers by Jayne. I have no idea what it is, but it had an AK sickle mag behind the trigger group so I'm shouting at the AK heads here; is there a bullpup AK? Confusingly it's also got an ACOG on the top of it and what looks like the outside sleeve of a Vickers with an end cap (or some kind of corrugated metal in a tube form anyway) and an M500 underneath (though I think this might just be for the grip surface, I didn't see a trigger mech, just a tube with the pump grip). Either way, it looks unreal.
(Bad image but it's all I could find without a name, the bottom half of the gun is missing here.)

Yep bullpup Ak here's a usefull link http://www.imfdb.org/index.php?title=Serenity

I'm going to come right out and say this before the AK lovers even get a chance, that thing is desperately ugly. Beyond anything I've seen. That makes the FA-MAS look like a piece of art (albeit, a cubist Picasso).

I forgot about that site. Much better piccies of it on there, which saves me having to dig the dvd out and hit Print Screen a lot.
