    Hi ,
Ive started going running with friends 3 times a week, Im wearing decent runners, maybe I could improve on running on the grass as its mainly paths at the moment. My problem is I feel riddled with very minor 'injuries'. At first I moaned to the lads about it but then I just stopped cause i realised how annoying it would be.
Basically I wanna ask should I actually book an appointment with a physio or are my problems normal ,i.e should I stop moaning and get on with it.

    Problems:

minor shin splints: These have been on and off for the last year, I did everything I could , got rest, etc and yes they did go away but they seem to be creeping back up on me, I think the thought of them is putting me off more than the problem itself lol.

heel pain : Ive a very minor pain in my right heel when running, its really not that sore and its not as bad when on grass, also slightly curving my foot inwards while running relieves it (cant be a good thing). But its always on my mind while jogging.

left knee: We do lunges afterwards and , Im ok doing my right leg but I find it painful on the knee when bending my left knee, this is a problem Ive felt since being younger(especially in cold weather),so i think its nothing to do with running tbh.

PS I warm up and do all my stretching correctly so that isnt an issue.
Any help would be great, just wanna know are these kind of problems common.

I started running seriously last year and had similar problems with shin splints and other smaller niggles. I went for gait analysis on my running style, (its a biomechanical assessment of your running style). I'm not a physio but it did wonders for me, i got specialist runners (same price as any good runners) to suit my running style and my problem is gone now and my jogging improved no end.

Amphibian King in Bray do the gait analysis and i am sure there are plenty of oither places in Dublin that would do it for you.

+1 on the gait scan. I think cycle ways just off parnell street do gait scans...or the shop next door, I cant remember!

Whats your sretching routine like? Also, do you take any glucosamine and/or chondroitin supplements? They did the trick for my left knee which was a problem for almost 8 years, my running has majorly improved just down to this!

Perhaps you should consider orthopedic insoles? I laughed when my physio recommended them.

I had problems after running / weights sessions with my knees and shins and starting wearing the insoles again it totally solved all my pain issues! :)
