Hello all, When is the short selling ban with irish stocks being lifted, also is there a possibilty that the gov will extend the ban? With the exsisiting turmoil with stocks including our banks would an extendid ban bring less volitility to irish stock values.

It's been pretty volatile with the ban in effect. I would argue that if the ban had never been in place then the volatility would have been less

Would have thought the volatility would have been much higher if the ban had remained with irish bank stocks.

My guess is that it would have made little difference. Maybe hit the bottom faster but that's about it.

Shorting Irish financials are still prohibited. The ban has been lifted for UK financials but remains in place for Irish ones. This contrary to a Bloomberg story during the week.

Thanks for info, Are we likely to see the ban remain for next quarter or two.
