I'm in GMIT at the moment but I want to change to a different course of the same level in Cork next year. I heard that if you drop out before some date in February you don't have to pay fees next year, is this true? And if so does anyone know the date? Please and Thank you :)

I'm not certain about how it works in GMIT, but in TCD, we have to go for second registration in Jan, so that college could claim the second half of our fees from the government.
Assuming it works the same elsewhere, so long as you don't re-register, then you won't be liable for the second half of fees when you do your new course next year. Make sure you let your department know what you are doing.

Crap if it's before xmas. We didn't have to re-register after xmas (i think anyway, I've only been in twice since cos I've been sick). Ah well, looks like I'll be workin all summer to save for that!!! Thanks anyway guys.

Check with your tutor/mentor/student services department yourself, don't just accept it! Could be a saving of a couple of thousand in the difference in what you would pay.

I'm pretty sure it's before xmas for all colleges and you have to officially drop out. but don't take my word for it!

Most certainly not in TCD. As I said, there is a re-registration session after the Christmas break so that the college can claim the remainder of fees from the government.
