Anyone doing Applied Physics?

    Hi, i`m in 6th year and i put down applied phys as my first choice. I`ve looked at the prospectus countless times and i think gained as much knowledge about the course that i can from book, so i was just wondering whats the course like?

    I did Physics with Astronomy which has most of the same modules. What exactly do you want to know?

    Overall I thought it was a good course. It involved quite a lot of work. If you do go for it, don't be lazy in first year. I spent 3 years trying to make up for that.

    I do it, I'm in 3rd year now....eh...can't think of anything to say about it really, pretty good course in general. Any particular question lemme know

    I'd did that course and loved it. I've been very lucky to get a job in new technology development and have used nearly 70% of what I learnt in the course. It gives you enough of a grounding in quite a broad range of subjects; programming, electronics, real physics, applied stuff (lasers, semiconductor processing etc)

    Just don't be deluded by the low points. It's a tough course and as far as I remember, we lost maybe 40% of people during year one. I think 15 graduated out of 27 starting.

    Don't let that put you off. Just work hard. I think we had 27 hours per week most years. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, extremely interesting.

    Im in first year applied physics myself and i love it.
    It is hard enough but if you have an interest in physics and maths and are willing to put your head down a bit then it can be very rewarding.
    What i find to be a big plus is that theres not all just basic physics ive been doing little bit of astronomy chemistry and even computer programming which is great craic.

    the small class size means you get to know everyone quite quick and the lecturers can be a lot more helpful.with less people it can mean asking for help can be a lot easier and you can work together to sort out any problems you might have. I know I would of been a lot more nervous in a class of 150 where your just another face in the c\rowd to everyone else.
