    Hi all,

Looking for an autoelectrician or mechanic to do a nixer in Ballymun. Have a problem with a broken radio that wont disconnect from the engine when it is switched off. The car is currently not being used so is 'off the road', so would need someone to come to the house to check it out / work on it.

Need to get this sorted asap, so if anyone is interested in a spot of work, please post back contact details with your name and number or phone me at the number below.

    Thanks

    MODEDIT
    phone number removed
(not a good idea to publish your number unless you fancy calls by all sorts of spammers and weirdos)

If the radio's broken then why not just disconnect it?

What was happening was I had to disconnect the battery because the radio was still on somehow and draining the battery when the car was switched off. I actually connected the battery yesterday and the horn keeps going off now!

Does the car have a factory alarm? This sometimes happens when the battery's flat - the battery in the alarm dies too, and the alarm goes crazy. It usually corrects itself after the engine's been running for a bit.

I tried to turn on the engine while the alarm went off but the key wouldn't turn.

The battery mightn't have enough charge to turn over the engine. Or would it turn over but not start?

Couldn't actually turn the key. I'll have to give it a bash again.

Has the car got central locking? If so when you recconect the battery press the button to open the car, (if it isn't remote turn the key is the door as you normally would etc.). Alarm should go off, along with the immobiliser and with a good battery car should start. (One of a million possibilities)

Cheers, I'll give that a go.

Is it an auto? If so, make sure it's in P or N.

Thought they don't come out of P when the battery is f'ed.

There's usually a release switch near the shift lever, although it may be covered. I was more thinking that the car may have been left in, say D, before the battery died.;)

What make is the car? there is an issue with VW/Audi/Skoda with replaced radios - red & orange leads need to be reversed to kill the amp.
