Sky+ recordings jumpy when recording 2 channels

I have 2 SKY+ boxes. I have one of the original boxes that I moved upstairs when I got multi-room to have the larger capacity in the living room.
I have never had any problems with the older box, but with the new one, everytime I record 2 channels at the same time, it seems that one of the recordings will suffer from being very jumpy to the point of almost being unwatchable.

Is this a fault with the box or are there settings that I should check?

    Thanks,

When you are recording 2 programs at the same time it means you are writing two files on one hard drive at same time.
As a rule of thumb, SD (standard definition) program is around 2GB per hour. Thats 2Gb = 2048 Mb
Divide that by 60 (minutes) and you get that you are writing 34Mb per minute.
So that makes it that standard transfer rate is approx 0.6Mb per second.
2 Programs then write at rate of 1.137Mb per second. Not big deal BUT you are not writing one file. You are writing 2 files at the same time so there is a lot of disk spining and writing at different locations.
i think this just tells us that your hard drive in the Sky box is not up to the job.
It probably works perfectly fine when you record one program but 2 recording are pushing the spin rate of your current hard drive to its limits.

Thanks for the information here -
But, the SKY+ box is supposed to be able to do this - i.e. record 2 programs with the expected quality.
So, I should contact SKY and tell them that my box seems to be faulty?

Of course it should work, and doesn't approach the HDD write speed! However it does go wonky sometimes, for me. If it's a one-off, then I treat it as such. If it happens a few times over a short period of time, I do a "Sky+ Planner Rebuild" (in the Services > 4 > 0 > 1 > Select (hidden) menu), at the next oppertunity (i.e. when I'm not recording somethng). Simply rebooting the box (hard reboot .. plug out, and back in) worked once or twice, but not always.

Just a thought - check your signal quality in the setup menu. You may have a problem with the second LNB or tuner. When you say the picture is "jumpy", do you mean that it drops out momentarily? It could, of course, be a problem with the box firmware which a re-boot or planner re-build may resolve.
