We are a group of parents from the Citywest, Tallaght and Saggart areas who are trying to establish an Educate Together primary school in the Tallaght/Citywest area.

If you would be interested in sending your child to such a school, please fill out the pre-enrolment form which is available at our website.

Best of luck with it ET_Citywest, where abouts would this school be located? Have you any sites in mind?

Hi r3nu4l, we have identified a few potential sites, all of which are in the Tallaght/Citywest/Saggart area. Obviously we need approval, so we (and Educate Together) are still working hard toward approval (and funding) from the Department of Education. The purpose of the pre-enrolment list is to demonstrate the local need for our school, and we've had a very good response so far.

I'll keep the forum up to date with developments.

Glad to hear things are moving along :)

It would be nice to hear how things progress purely for the interest of anyone else who has similar ideas about getting approval for a school, it may help them avoid any pitfalls that you come across along the way. I'm sure the experience is trying but hopefully worthwhile.

An Educate Together national school will most likely not be opening in Tallaght-Citywest this year (2009). The Department of Education and Science have informed us that they do not intend to recognize a new school in Tallaght in 2009.

We encourage any interested parents to continue to make representations to their local political representatives to change this decision. Furthermore, the Department of Education and Science intends to recognise new schools in the general Tallaght area in 2010 and 2011.

The patronage of any proposed new schools has not been decided and any interested parents should also advocate Educate Together as the patron of a new school in the area to ensure that parents have the right to decide on the type of education their children receive.

We are still actively working towards opening an Educate Together School in 2010 and are completely committed to this. I will continue to post updates on our progress.

Any children who have been pre-enrolled for 2010 (and onwards) will retain their positions on the pre-enrolment list. Any children who are placed on the pre-enrolment list for 2009 will retain their position on the list for a place in senior infants in 2010.

    Hi all,

Just a brief update to let you know what's going on with the campaign. Here is our latest press release:

    _____________________________________________________________

A group of parents who have been campaigning since May 2008 to have an Educate Together Primary School recognized in Dublin 24 were yet again disappointed to hear that the Department of Education and Science will not be providing any new schools for Tallaght in 2010.

The PRO of the Tallaght-Citywest Educate Together Association, said “We are extremely disappointed with this decision and encourage parents to contact their local political representatives to urge the Department to reconsider. We would again implore the Department of Education and Science to ensure that an Educate Together school be recognized in the area as soon as possible.

Local families have already pre-enrolled a large number of children for our proposed school, many of whom have been on the list since 2008 and are currently sending their children to Educate Together schools as far away as Rathfarnham and Adamstown.

We will be redoubling our efforts to have an Educate Together school in Tallaght-Citywest because we want the option for our children to be educated in a school that is multi-denominational, co-educational, child-centred and democratically run in the area of South West Dublin”.

    __________________________________________________________

As a result, we won't be meeting up again until next year, possibly January and February, when we will start our 2011 campaign.

We won't be giving up. ;)
