Is it possible to find an insurance provider that will provide home insurance on a unoccupied cottage. This cottage was inherited and no one has live in it for over a year, its in good condition and would like to have it covered.

I know Allianz do insurance on unoccupied houses. I would assume most insurers would be the same.

Allianz has an exclusion to their policy

If the house is unoccupied for more than 35 consecutive days important Policy Exclusions applies to the policy

    The exclusion is:
"where the private house has been unoccupied for more than 35 consecutive days prior to the loss or damage"

Is this the 'normal' home insurance policy or the holiday home specific policy?

Allianz also sell a holiday home policy, I assume just about every holiday home is unoccupied for 35 consecutive days each year so this exclusion would be gard to justify for a holiday home policy. Ring either them or a broker to find out your options.

Thanks for the info, will give them a ring, this was for general housing insurance

...have just contacted FBD and they are a bit iffy about it.

Trying to get insurance on the old family home, mother has moved into a new house. Live about 2 miles from it, so often in it.

Do many or any companies give quotes on unoccupied houses. If not, who insures the thousands of empty houses around the places?
