Hello. I'll be spending a few weeks in Dublin and would love to have some suggestions for great shopping. I'm mainly interested in women's clothing and accesories from unique shops that sell something a little different than what I would find here in New York. Thanks.

    Hi there,
It really depends on your style but I would say how about looking at some of the shops selections online and going from there? I know Topshop has just opened in New York but if you like it there is a good one in the city centre. If you dont know it here is the link http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TopCategoriesDisplay?storeId=12556&catalogId=19551, Miss selfridge is also good; http://www.missselfridge.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TopCategoriesDisplay?storeId=12554&catalogId=20555
    orr Warehouse; http://www.warehouse.ie/

Maybe you could tell us a little about your age and style and we could get a better idea of what you are looking for and work from that?

I think alot of American girls love TopShop and Miss Selfridge and you'll find 3/4 of them in the city centre.

but if your looking for something a little bit different... there's a few places you could try,

firstly, Georges Street Arcade, its behind Grafton Street and has alot of cool accessory shops

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=george+street+arcade+dublin+&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=30.185946,15.380859&ie=UTF8&ll=53.343506,-6.263452&spn=0.005547,0.007703&z=16&iwloc=B

    Secondly, PowersCourt Shopping Centre,

bit expensive but depends on your budget, they have a french connection, Karen Millen, and I think All Saints plus there's some cool irish designers in there that sell like one-offs. definitley worth a look

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=powerscourt+shopping+centre+dublin&sll=53.343506,-6.263452&sspn=0.005547,0.007703&ie=UTF8&ll=53.345684,-6.261134&spn=0.010479,0.015407&z=15&iwloc=A

thirdly, grafton street & stephens green. more main stream shops like Brown Thomas, warehouse, office (for shoes), Awear,

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=grafton+street+dublin&sll=53.345927,-6.263301&sspn=0.005239,0.007703&ie=UTF8&ll=53.343096,-6.259804&spn=0.010479,0.015407&z=15&iwloc=addr

lastly, templebar. there's a few small cool shops there, like Urban Outfitters, at the back of urban outfitters, there's some cool hibbie/rockabilly shops so just depends on your tastes really!

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=temple+bar+dublin&sll=53.34644,-6.264138&sspn=0.005239,0.007703&ie=UTF8&z=15

Thanks for all of your suggestions. Warehouse looks good. I've been looking forward to Topshop opening in New York but they keep delaying it for some reason. Last I heard it wouldn't be open until March. Grrrrrr.

I am 33. I'm not sure what my style is...Preppy-Bohemian-Soccer Mom?? My favorite designers are Marc Jacobs, Max Mara, Theory and Katayone Adeli. That's if money were no object...lol.

For more affordable stuff I like UniQlo, Club Monaco, Banana Republic, Anthropologie, American Apprel etc.

I'm always interested in finding nice scarves, hats, knitwear and interesting lingerie...

You'll get Marc Jacobs, Max Mara, etc. in Brown Thomas on Grafton St. www.brownthomas.ie

Other high street stores would be A-Wear, River Island, Warehouse, Office (for shoes).

Another place to try would be Dundrum Town Centre - it's about a 20 minute Luas (a tram) ride from the city centre. Actually the stop in the city centre is right across from the big Topshop on Stephen's Green so you could go to Topshop first and then head out to Dundrum! www.dundrum.ie There's a store directory on the website. It's Ireland's biggest shopping centre and you'd have all the high street shops there under one roof. It also has House of Fraser and a very small Harvey Nichols.

It's very handy actually coz it's usually raining in Ireland so heading to Dundrum is a very good idea if you wanna avoid getting rained on :) I actually tend to avoid the city centre most of the time and just go to Dundrum. The only shops it doesn't have that I would frequent a lot would be Topshop and Brown Thomas.

If you're looking for lingerie as you said, Agent Provocateur is also in Brown Thomas. Brown Thomas is basically like Neiman Marcus, SAKS, etc and it has boutiques like Chanel, Hermes, LV, etc. A high street place for lingerie is La Senza (also on Grafton St and again in Dundrum Town Centre).

If you're looking for a nice scarf or any other wooly stuff, I'd recommend going to Avoca Handweavers www.avoca.ie There is an Avoca at the bottom of Grafton St (at the Trinity College side) and they sell lovely Irish handmade scarves and blankets, etc. If you need proper directions I can write them up here for you.

There's also other boutiques around the southside city centre such as Chica, Rococo, Lara, Costume, there's a few others but I can't think of their names, grr! Anyway, they sell dresses, one-off pieces, or stuff that you wouldn't find anywhere else, different to high street, etc. that you probably wouldn't get in other places. Their addresses are here: http://www.irishboutiques.com/ If I think of the others I'll post them here.

I'll have a think and see if I can think of anything else!

Heya, if you like Anthropologie, you'll love Avoca, as mentioned above, they do a clothing range which is a lot like Anthropologie. Mango is worth a look, there's one in Arnotts in the city centre and one in House of Fraser in Dundrum Town Centre. Esprit in Dundrum is good, as is Zara. Even Penneys is worth a look, it's a chain of super-cheap department stores, the womenswear in particular is very fashion-forward, not built to last but good for a bargain, most people i know who live abroad make straight for Penneys when they hit the shops! I'd second visiting Dundrum Town Centre, it has practically every shop on the high street in one place! Enjoy the shopping!
