Eircom a bit slow tonight?

In Cork here and Eircom BB seems to be going very very slow. Download speed is as usual at about 650kbs for me, but latency is killing me.

Most pages aren't responding without a few tries, and as of now I can't get onto google, eircom.net and most other sites. Just keeps timing out.

    Anyone else having probs?

It's a pain. Timeouts, slow download of pages etc.

EDIT: google is a bit off as well.

Edit 2: just tried google now and it failed to load.

    cork, eircombb.

Yep, Eircom is really slow to load pages this evening with timeouts, particularly google for some reason- it's not my line either as lines stats are now fine and stable after the technician came out the other day (water in junction box).

Thank god it's not just me.

Things mental here. We have an Eircom Business BB package.

In fairness, the service has been pretty good of late. Given the nationwide problems reported here, I think it must be a fairly big problem on the Eircom side and not just limited to particular local exchanges.

Finally got to load this page to answer your question! lol

yes it is for me too.

EDIT: this is the fourth time i tried to submit reply lol

Are they worth calling to ask if there's a problem? I've never had reason to call them, well, not in recent years anyway.

Edit - there is obviously a problem, I should say call them to ask when it will be sorted!

Having the same problem in Dublin, have been tempted to ring them but it looks nationwide, see the number of mentions of eircom in recent posts

Change your DNS settings. I set mine to magnet's DNS server (85.91.1.18) and web access is fine now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭azzeretti

I was having the same problems but when I changed my DNS settings to a non-Eircom server, the name resolution sped up and all is good now.

Couple of ways. You could go into Network Conenction and the properties of your TCP/IP settings and choose to specify a DNS server. OR you could set it up on the router side. Easiest is most likey to do it on your PC/Laptop

The above assumes your OS is Windows based.

Was OK this morning then it just seemed to drag in the afternoon and has virtually ground to a halt in the evening time.

Changing DNS settings didn't help unfortunetly. Seems to have gotten a good bit slower again. This is pretty much the only site that'll work for me.

Latency test tracks fine to dublin then times out...

I thought this was just me, everything was either not loading or timing out, I even thought i had a virus so did a virus scan. Took me ages to finally log onto boards.

Start --> Control Panel --> Network and Internet --> View network status and tasks --> Manage network connections --> Right click on Local Area Connection and select properties --> Select Internet Protocol Version 4 -- click properties --> click use the following DNS servers.

    Holy ****.

From the start menu -> control panel -> network and sharing center -> there should be a number of links on the left of the window, click the one saying manage network settings -> double click on your network connection icon -> properties -> click internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click properties -> click the radio button that says "use the following DNS server addresses" you can enter both the Magnet and alternative Eircom in whichever one you prefer.

EDIT: Must have been off by a few seconds.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 103 ✭✭Niall F

To change TCP/IP settings in Vista, click Start button.....Network....Network and Sharing Centre.... View Status....(on appropriate network connection), go into Properties. Highlight TCp/IP v4 and you should be able to do it there. But presumably you could change on your router either. Need admin privleges in Vista to do this though. Think that's how you do it. XP here in front of me.
    Hope I haven't misled you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,103 ✭✭✭derra

Like everyone else it seems i had same problems as well.
On the Netopia router page ..
It has Primary DNS server as ...192.168.1.236
    Secondary as ............192.168.1.194

If i recall correctly it was the other way around(last time i looked was a while ago), does this make much of a difference out of interest?

Bray user and using open dns server config. at the moment
