I'd say try www.traynors.co.uk up North. They are a large scrap dealer and delivery to the Republic.

Yeah, tried them allready but its very rare engine and they dont have it. Any other big scrap yards???

I'd say a specialist in the UK is probably your best chance then. Don't know any over there unfortunately.

A seriously troublesome engine usually due to unspecialised Saab mechanics servicing it, you need to drop the sump and clean out the gause where the oil is sucked up from the sump and very few mechanics do this. As a result of this engines blow up regularly. I doubt you'll find one tbh, did you consider a rebuild?

Yeah i did consider a rebuild but i have no clue what would the price be for rebuild and its so much easier to just swap the engine as they are not that expensive (about 600-700 second hand one)

There's a saab specialist in cork, FM Autos. Helped a guy i work with when his 93 blew up. Might be worth giving them a shout. A quick google should get the contact info. I'd get it but on the train and using my phone now...

a s/hand one is cheap for a reason, usually........

What age is the car, version ? - you might actually pick up an entire car for the price of an engine..........and drive it home, and keep the rest for parts !...or start a bonfire !

    Engine only:

Info and small ads, including engines - www.saabscene.com worth registering and putting up an ad

I have a 9-3 Tid for my sins, and my brother has a 9-5 3.0t Yep, 3.0 turbo. No, not diesel !!

Cork is a bit too far for me as im in Dundalk but it would be great if someone would know what would the reconditioning of engine be.

Its not even my car, i just have to organise the whole fixing of it. Its 2002 Saab 95 2.0t vector. There is a new turbo new ECU in it and it would not be cheaper to buy a new one as they are about €6000

    1. its from uk
    2. it has 165000 miles on it, which is a lot
    3. taking the engine out of that thing would mean paying mechanic and its not easy to get it out.

6k would be another Saab 95 (whole car i mean) :)

    1. true, but 1k landed, and it runs
    2. yes, but yours has less..........and doesn't - so tbh, I don't think it matters. So long as it's a B205e
    3. If a mechanic is doing it, difficulty is his problem ! But an engine swop on a big scale isn't as big a deal as you think.......

What is your budget, to fix, realistically ?

Well the budget is about €1500
Ill try to get second hand engine from UK cos there are few places that even give you like 6 month warranty on the them.
It wouldn't be my problem that its difficult, but it would run up a high bill to my mechanic. And there would be no use to that other Saab once the engine is out as all other parts would be different...

hmmm, 1500 might be a bit tight. cheapest I can get the Mazda parts for is 2800 for parts + labour.........

do try that forum, though, some of the guys there are from NI, so that'd be a lot easier to get to/from, if necessary.

I'm currently waiting on a quote from these guys: http://www.reconditioned-engines.co.uk/index.shtml

they do used, recon exchange, or recon of your engine.

Sorry - is your car manual or auto ?

Maybe you are entitled to a free engine or part payment!Contact SAAB.
They keep on saying on "saabscene.com" that because of the sludge issue with these cars, SAAB have an 8 year warranty on these engines. Also you should only use semi synthetic oil because it doesn't break down so quickly. And if you have an AERO....fully synthetic.

    Thanks for the help lads.
Got the engine from ebay for €1650 fully reconditioned with 12 month or 40k miles warranty.

If you have saab service history they'll give you warranty. Saab in sandyford fitted a new engine in my '00 9-5 recently.
