Hey guys. I remember a while ago i saw a thread with someone showin a guitar amp that they made and put in an empty bean can and I cant find the thread. The video of it is on youtube but im in college right now so i cant link you to it. Basically, Im going to do the same thing and i want to ask the person what speaker they used cause i want it to fit nicely in but im not sure which diameter to go for. I think the diameter of the can is over 3 and a half inches, but most speakers come with square borders so they can be screwed to stuff so I wanna know what that person used as to save myself alot of trouble! lol If anyone has any info id greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks

Ok i thik i found the speaker Im looking for, http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&productId=135812&
Still would like to hear peoples opinions on this sort of thing and on building your own amps. Im hoping to one day fully build a large valve amp but thats a good few years away. Im gonna build a few small ones gettin bigger as i go along. Has anyone else done anything like this?

Hey, I'm the guy with the bean can amp.
The one that's on my uTube video is litterally built out of the radio electronics project and uses the little speaker out of it. It didn't have a frame as it sat into the box of the radio. It's purely just the voice coil, magnet, spider and frame.
I made a DIY baffleboard from strong card at the same diameter as the can and cut out the speaker shape in it. At the moment the original still just sit's loosley on top of the can as I tweak it from time to time and also the battery is inside. I've still to figure out a reliable way to fix the baffleboard/speaker assembly but still have it easily removeable for battery replacement before going into mass production!!! :pac:
How are you going to build your circuit. Mine is based on the National Semicon LM386 mini power opamp that was running the radio. If you download the spec sheet some sample circuits are given http://www.national.com/ds/LM/LM386.pdf. http://www.runoffgroove.com also has a good project "Little Gem" which uses the 386. Mines a hotch potch of the Little Gem, the circuits from the spec sheet, my own idea's and I restricted myself to whatever was in the radio just to make life interesting.

I've built a few FX pedals, experimental solid state pre amps and I'm starting out my first self designed valve amp build in the next two weeks. I've been meaning to build the Bean Can Mark II for a while now but haven't gotten around to it.
Let us know how you get on. :)
