They are having similar events around the universities next week as well. The ones at the uni's definetly cover J1. I'm not sure if the ones at the uni's cover non-student visa's, but I think the one in Dublin will cover all visa's, current students, graduates, working / under 35. I'm goona go to the one in NUIG next thursday at 6 so hopefully it will save me going to Dublin. I would be interested in the 12 month Canada or USA visa's.

I signed up for it as I wanted to call into them after work to see if they had any tips/ people with past experiences of Canada. I got the mail with the timetable yesterday, but turns out the Canada talks are on too early in the day for me and only cover 'Skilled Migrant' and 'Student' Visas:(. I might still pop in later on the offchance that there are people there who have done the under-35 but I'm not holding out much hope. Maybe someone else can shed some light??

Did anyone go to the Work North America / Canada presentation? Did they have any useful information on the 12 month USA visa?

The only difference in the new 12 month USA visa is that you do not need to have a job before you go over. Otherwise, it is the same as the Internship visa. It is only open to graduates within 12 months of graduation.

    Cazlou,

I called into this, I only struck around for the US/Canada session. it was okay, it was informative but nothing special. well, no i tell a lie, the girl speaking about Canada gave an indication of the different provinces and the type of weather/terrain/jobs there.

Plus, they did refer to the u35 program, they said that the u35 programme was full as of this moment, but they hope to have more places available.

i put myself on the waiting list. enough messing around!

    Thanks fluke!
I registered the day it opened and my forms are in for processing at the moment :) I wouldn't imagine anyone on the waiting list early will be waiting too long for a place to come up!
Ah the info about the different areas probably would've been useful, but sod's law that it was while I was in work  If there's anything you remember it'd be great if you could post it or even pm me it?! :D

She said there is a big demand for chefs in Canada. Also there is always a big demand for oil workers in areas cuch as Alberta. She said that in places like the Yukon they have higher minimum wages to help entice workers there. IT is big in Ontario (Toronto) and Quebec and IT accounted for 18% of job growth in Vancouver last year. That's as much as I can remember right now.

When you say oil workers are you talking more about qualified workers such as engineers and the likes or are they looking for unskilled labour too? Heard the moneys good up there, wouldnt mind working hard there for a month or two and maybe saving a few quid!

These are the only ones I remember, but there were others. There is a list of current skills in demand on the canadian government / immigration website. They are categorised in terms of their need, i.e. professions with most demand now are in 'top' category. These are for those looking to apply for citizenship so if you are qualified in them, your chances are better. You can use these to gauge demand for work on the 12 month visa too.

The girl giving the presentation kept stressing how good the government websites are, organised, detailed etc.

She did not go into detail on the exact types of jobs, but you should see if the website I mentioned above can give you more info.
