    Hi,

What's the best newspapers to find Jobs in?

I've basically been cut down to 3 days a week with, my boss told me yesterday it's gonna be coming down to 2 soon aswell as there's just no new business, anyway, I had a feeling it was coming, I've been lookign for a job since October.
Been on all the recruitment websites, indvidual recruitment agencies websites, indvidual companies websites and I'd say since Oct I've applied for about 30 jobs with no replies :(
I've never really had a problem getting a job on the net but have decided I need to find another source, I bought the mirror yesterday:obut they don't advertise jobs!
I'm going to buy the Herald today but is there any other papers?

I'd be looking for any type of office admin role. I've been working in the mortgage industry since 04

    Thanks for any help

How good are your cover letter and CV?

Will you send them onto me and I'll take a look? <snip>

30 jobs in almost 3 months?

Start applying for 30 jobs a week and you might get somewhere.

OK, I've just reviewed your CV and cover letter. They're good, so that's not the problem. :)

Could you try ringing employers a day or two after you ring them? This will get you on their radar.

Regarding newspapers... the Herald & Independent do have a jobs page, but most of those jobs appear on loadzajobs.ie.

The Star have a jobs page, but again most of them appear on jobs.ie.

I'd say the problem might be the number of people who are applying for jobs at the moment, so you really need to figure out a way to stand out from the crowd.

I'm a long time member of boards and a regular contributer to this forum. I would hope most people at this stage would know I'm not a criminal! :o :pac:

Anyway, what's the difference between sending me your CV, or sending it to an employer or agency? You never know who is going to see your details or what they're going to do with them, and anyway, a CV hardly contains enough information to clear out someone's bank account.

baddy: hi, is this Miss X, living at address Y, date of birth Z ?
    silly person: yes
baddy: can you verify your bank account number/credit card details with us, as there seems to be a problem with them
    silly person: oh ok, they're.........

well we wont be sending you our details thats for sure Codger. AARRGH is a regular on boards and as a No0b you might not understand he has build up a certain amount of respect. besides that - how do you know the poster included any relavant personal detail than his work history or that it was accurate ?

    funny guy !

i couldn't give a monkeys how much 'respect' a person who posts thousands of posts on a forum has among his equally 'respected' cyber-chums, someone with that many posts should be even more embarrased not to have basic cop-on about identity theft at this stage. Read the sticky and stop wasting my time, this is like explaining something to a couple of three year olds.

I don't know ARRGHHH, but I'm sure people here know him personally, as well as the fact the admins can trace his access back to IP addresses and find him that way should anything ever happen.

And it would be a bit stupid of him to publicly implicate himself in identity theft don't you think?

He was obviously offering sincere assistance to someone who asked. Stop being so cynical. Not everyone is out to screw the world. Speaks volumes about your motives though.

As for the sticky - learn how to read - no one posted personal details about anyone in this thread.

    Seriously, grow up.

Evening herald and the independent also free local newspapers have adverts like the northside/soutside people. Sometimes the jobs are the same as the ones on the websites, but theres usually less of the recruitment agencies repeat postings. Always good to have a range of sources as the majority of people probably just rely on the net.

yeah stellar advice, well worth sending your details to a stranger..

"Could you try ringing employers a day or two after you ring them? This will get you on their radar."

yeah an intrusive call to HR asking for an update always does the trick... Ever heard of Don't call us, we'll call you ?

"I'd say the problem might be the number of people who are applying for jobs at the moment"

    ya think?

    lol.

anyways, i haven't got time for this, i have a job to do ;) Good luck with the Herald thing...

Do you have any advice for the OP, or did you just come here to be negative?

from what I can remember the Independent always had a good jobs section on Thursdays....if thats any help?

Look in your local regional papers. Even if there are no jobs, try to ring up local companies advertised there, and see whether they will offer anything. I did the same, got a few replies and I was quite happy with that.

Newspaper work is *not* a good place to be going at the moment. The papers are losing readership to the Web, and staff are being cut radically. Sorry to be gloomy, but this is reality.

Yeah this is the problem right now. You say you've been working in your area since '04 but I suppose the problem is now that you're going up against people with double or treble the experience you have.

I'm in the same boat as I only have two years experience and not the most consistent CV. I've had a couple of interviews but each time there have been people with far more experience. One job I have an interview for had a terrible salary but the interviewer told me there had been hundreds of applicants and apologised for taking so long to draw up the shortlist. This is a job that no-one would have applied for a year ago, the job market is so different these days :(
