The Leinster Championships are on this Sunday in Kilkenny. Thankfully Laois avoided most of the big guns in the group stages like all Ireland champs Kilkenny and Dublin

    Anyone going??

    From www.donegaldarts.com/forum:
The draws for the Men's and Ladies' competitions in the 2009 Leinster Inter-Counties Championships were made in O'Shea's Hotel, Tramore, on Saturday, January 10th.

    Men:
Section {1}: Offaly, Louth, Kildare, Kilkenny.
Section {2}: Longford, Meath, Wexford, Dublin.
Section {3}: Laois, Westmeath, Carlow, Wicklow.

Matches to be played on a Round Robin basis with the top two teams from each section plus the two best losers to qualify for the quarter-finals.

    Ladies:
Section {1}: Kildare, Meath, Westmeath, Dublin.
Section {2}: Laois Carlow, Wexford, Kilkenny.

Matches to be played on a Round Robin basis with the top two teams from each section to qualify for the semi-finals.

    Youths:
A separate Youths' competition will also be organised and the draw for that will be made on the day.

Really?? All I heard from the lads was that Laois got hammered. Kilkenny are defending All-Ireland champs. Didn't realise Meath was that strong

Good stuff, you must be a very good thrower to play at county level. Keep it up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,282 ✭✭✭Carrickman

Yeah John and Dermot are still playing for them alright (seeing as they cant get a match in their own county:rolleyes:).

No, until the Donegal county team give players from our area a chance I have no intrest, players from our league play for Sligo and Meath there hasen't been a trial match in the county since the early 90's (in fact Sligo offered us a trial match!!), I'm not saying that I'm good enough to play for any county far from it, but there are players in our league that deserve a chance.

Seems very bad form and a real closed shop on Donegals behalf.

    That the SWDL??

I think Offaly has a similar problem, Banagher and Tullamore leagues, with from what I'm told, the county team being picked from the weaker Tullamore league

Too much politics in inter-county darts

how does the county system operate..?

how is the team selected..? is it nearly always a closed shop..?

In Wexford they run open ranking tournaments weekly or fortnightly and the team is picked on that. I think maybe they have one or two wildcards, but basically it's open to anyone to qualify for the team.

amn't sure what way the dublin team is picked but i do know the winner of the dun laoghaire singles (monday) is entitled to a place on the squad, whether they take it up or not is up to them.

Looking for that myself, top secret I suppose:rolleyes: the INDO PR is terrible very hard to get info of them.

It's not on aertel, or the SWDL forum, PR needs a kick up the ass

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,502 ✭✭✭MBC

There is some info about the INDO here but dont think its the official INDO site

    http://www.darts.ie/indo.htm

And yeah agree the PR is v.bad.

That's not even up to date!! Pity, I'm dying to know what group Laois got, had a bad Leinsters and with their national seeding I'm not holding my breathe for a good showing at the all irelands, hopefully they'll avoid Kilkenny and Donegal

Even Michael O'Sullivan can't get the fixtures for our forum/dartsinireland site, but noting will ever change with the INDO stuck in their old ways the intercountys should be promoted as the best of Irish darts not this way I will hopfuly have fixtures somtime over the next 24 hours.
