well the most obvious difference will be that a 325 is a 2.5L engine and the 320 will have a 2 litre engine. Both engines were straight six m20 engines, however there was significant different between power out, the 325 should produce 170 bhp and hit 60 in about 7.5 but they can go considerably faster. the 320 m20 engine only produce about 125bhp, and was considerably slower. Is the 325 that you bought a sport?

Hi OP, do you think the car is under powered and this is raising your suspicion? He it is an Irish or UK car type the reg in to http://www.cartell.ie to see what the car originally was. If you are sure it was originally a 325i them have a look at the serial number on the ECU (I believe it is under the dash above glove box, can't remember exactly). Enter the ECU number into google and it will more than likely come up under some listing. Failing that say a visit to www.e30zone.net and ask the experts.

Also, if the engine in the car is different to that what is shown on the logbook (ie smaller) you should be paying less insurance and car tax.
And getting a heat gun, removing the 325 logo from the back. :D

At the risk of sounding stupid, why did you buy it if it's so slow? Have you irrevocably paid for it?

Have you had it serviced yet? If you're in Dublin you could bring it to AC cars, they'll help you out.
