    Hey,

    What's the average Salary in the marketing arena these days?

    Working for a small agency myself, graduated one and a half years ago and have strong experience behind me. Also did a professional diploma striaght afterwards in Advertising in DIT.

    I'm on 23k now but looking to up it to around 27 for my 6 month review here . . . maybe 30? Or is that too much to go in at?

    Never be afraid to go in high. The worst that can happen is that your boss will say No. He or she is not going to think badly of you for valuing yourself and your work. Lots of the recruitment agencies do salary surveys at this time of year based on 2008 salaries. Salaries have probably dropped from then of course but it will give you an idea and some ammunition in your salary review when your boss inevitably mentions the "R" word. For an idea of salaries, in the Media/Print sector a marketing executive may earn €30,000 - €41,000 while a Sales & Marketing Executive would range from €31,000 - €43,000. High online marketing salaries may be pushing this range up so you can only rely on it as a rough guide. Think about some training courses you might like to undertake, think about asking for a change in your job title, think about asking for flexible hours maybe going home an hour early on Fridays or ask to spend an hour on Fridays educating yourself in an area you're interested in.     hey mosey,
    i think that is excellent advice that niamh offered, i particularly like the creative thinking; courses, time off, flexi etc.
    I feel as a graduate with some relevant work experience you are currently being underpaid, whether they argue that you are privileged to hold a position in such a competitive industry etc. thats neither here nor there, you have the job and you are capable of doing it...you are well educated and you deserved 25k imo to begin with, then asking for 27k-30k would not be such a large jump at this point...tell them that entry level market value is above what you have been earning but you intended to be loyal to that company and request they match your expected salary increase at 30k which is average market value for your current qualifications and experience...they might argue you down to 27-28 but aim high! good luck..let us know what happens

    Click on the links on the left for specific areas. Bare in mind though that lots of companies have implemented a pay and or recruitment freeze - so dont be too surprised if your curernt employer is not in a position to offer you better terms.
