Have a quick query, I contract for myself, finished up on Xmas Eve, signed on after Xmas (yet to receive anything), now one of last employers wants me to work 2-3 hours and bill me company, how does working 2-3 hrs work when on dole.TBH I don't like refusing work, but if its blatantly not worth my while. Then I wont do it.Would appreciate any advice...I realise its a strange question...

Have looked into it, 2-3 hrs just isnt feasible, when going through company books...Said it to a few friends, they said No straightaway...

Any day you do any work you can't claim the dole. You'd want to compare pay gained against dole lost.

If you work more than 3 days in a week, you lose all your dole.

If you are self-employed (see bold bits above) you are not entitled to the dole, I think. You'll have had to stop trading in order to qualify, and if you start again, you lose eligibility.

    Didn't spot that.

If you are self employed you can sign for Jobseeker's Allowance. If you satisfy the means test you may qualify for a payment.

In that case the number of days worked doesn't count.

    Self-employment

If you are self-employed, you may be entitled to Jobseeker's Allowance, depending on your income from your business. Self-employed farmers on a low income should apply for Farm Assist.
