    Hi All,

Have been thinking for sometime about changing to deisel as i am racking up about 20k miles a year. Currently have Alfa 156 1.8, love it but its a bit heavy on the juice (approx 28-30mpg) for the milage i do.

I was looking at a Saab 93 1.9 TID but for less money i could get an Octavia TDI with reletavily low milage.

Question is would the MPG differ much with the DSG gearbox as opposed to the manual??

Fuel Consumption is a bit heavier on the DSG, but not by much.

We had a 1.9Tdi DSG Octavia Elegance as a runner car in work. Cracking car to drive.

I did 15k in a 105bhp DSG Golf Plus and it used LESS juice than a manual. Difference still very small (48mpg average).

I know someone who does big mileage in an Octavia DSG estate, and he's getting about 48mpg too.

Yup, I drove a 2.0 TDI DSG and the fuel consumption was unbelievably low. I'd say it's better than a 5 speed manual in real life.

I remember reading somewhere that the dsg gave 1mpg better than the manual. Great box.

there's a guy on another forum that has a civic 2.2 diesel but came about a new golf 1.9tdi dsg cheap. He's had it remapped but he's raving raving about it at every opportunity, preferring it to the civic

Would consider the JTD but i intend to hold on to the car for a few years so i would really only go for something with less than 40k on the clock. Very hard to find a 156 JTD with that kind of milage. Also need the extra space the Octavia can offer. (huge boot;))

    Thanks for the replies guys

O/T - which just goes to show..........they do last, and well.

    Thats the winner right there!

Good find! Low mileage, price isnt too bad, although i'd bet there is a bit of room on it.

Good find, but was looking at something like this. I know its not as goodlooking as the alfa but its a year younger and little bit cheaper -

Is that even a DSG? Could be wrong but it could just be a tip-tronic, although the S could mean it's a dsg.

Very boring car though, basic spec, nothing going for it. Horrible colour. Try selling that in a few years time.

    Edit: It is a DGG.

    Hi there,

I've been through three 1.9 TDI DSGs over the last 5 years and the fuel economy has been on the decline. They're still quite good and having the DSG is fantastic but apparently, the one to go for now (but only on VWs I believe for the moment) is the 2.0L TDI DSG. They're meant to sip fuel.

But having said that, the Octavia is a fantastic car and still a great price (new or used) despite adding on the DSG as an option.

    Whats the difference???

Cartell lists it as follows -

    Registration:06D49279
    Make:SKODA
    Model:OCTAVIA
    Description:AMBI 1.9 TDI 5DR DSG 105HP
    Fuel Type: DIESEL

Colour doesn't really bother me, its really about space and economy at the moment. And i plan on holding onto it for a while so i'd say trying to sell it in a few years would not be much more difficult than the alfa above..

Lol, if you notice i checked cartell before you posted lol. Seems to be very limited choice diesel auto wise within your budget. That one seems to fit the bill and if you plan on keeping it, well resale shouldn't matter. All that's left now is to bargain hard and get a good warranty.

The big drawback of the Ambiente model is that it doesn't have Climate Control/Aircon. If that isn't an issue then fine but if it is then the Elegance model is the one to go for.

Yeah thats the only thing putting me off that paticular car but its not essential. I have lived with cars without A/C and C/C for most of my life so i'm sure i could go back to it!

Few quid more but it's the Elegance spec and a year newer

I had a 1.9TDI Elegance DSG for over 2 years and did 55k kms with it.
It was good on fuel and the boot is massive , big enough to put the baby stuff and some wine whilst coming back from France ;)

I would highly recommend the DSG [ so much so that my new car is an Octavia Estate VrS TDI DSG ... ]
