increased reception cost

Hi, our reception venue has just informed us that the cost has increased 6% from 2008 prices. ( our contract does state that they may increase or decrease prices in line with VAT).
When asked about it, they say cost of food has increased.
Surely prices should not be going up due to the current climate?

    similar thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055465248
from last week. I'm shocked they're trying this on. Look for alternatives TBH, we're experiencing deflation in this country FFS

I was given some crap about the price of food increasing too. It's so annoying. I'm getting married in meath, and as there are so many venues to choose from here - you'd think there'd be more competition. Also at the moment they give a taste session for free, but they couldn't even guarrantee we'd get ours free as the chef may change and the new one may not potentially agree. I think it's a load of rubbish and they should try harder to keep our business.

price of food has increased, and a lot more than 6%, By all means shop around to check you are still getting what you want at a price you're willing to pay, but from what I've heard most hotels have hiked prices 10% on last year.
