    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has been sucessful in getting a discount from the Apple online store to make up for the Sterling difference.

Can't see how they can expect us to continue paying standard price from them when it so much cheaper up north.

Anyone tried. Is it worth a phone call?

    Cheers

    Shane

Don't want to sound like a prick but UK site is for the UK market and the Irish site is for the Irish market, this topic has been covered atleast 6/7 times in the last few months. Bottom line were you ringing them when the Sterling was stronger to ask them to put the price up? No so why should they bring it down when the Euro gets stronger?

Different country, different economies, different incomes, different taxes, different standards of living, etc, etc it's basic economics really

If they were separate markets, then there would not be so many people going north for their shopping.

It is not as Black and White as different markets.

To Apple, going up North is the same as going to America to but stuff. Northern Ireland is part of the UK, just because we're attached to it doesn't mean we should be treated differently than any other country in Europe.

Keep in mind that everyone on mainland Europe/North America can quite easily go to a neighbouring country and buy products there at a different price to their own country. American's going to Canada/Danish people going to Germany to take advantage of exchange rates.

The bottom line is like many large company's Apple set their prices individually in each market in which they deal in and are not going to consistently change prices to reflect exchange rates, having said that there is a chance that should the current exchange rates remain the way they are, they may make a slight adjustment to reflect the strength of the Euro.

As I said in my original post, nobody asked for the price to be put up when the Euro was weak, so why should it be lowered when the Euro is strong?

it was never cheaper to buy apple products in Ireland rather than the UK. It was always about the same.

The price differential has never been so much.

There are really only two markets. Euro Zone and UK. In Canada and the USA prices are kept similar.

I know that Sony have put their price up in the UK as have many other major companies.

Seems strange that Apple do not really want to Irish Consumers to buy in Ireland.

Lastly, my original post was if anyone had got a discount from the Apple Store because someone told me they were offered a deal. Was this standard practice for them?

just a little off topic but speaking of discounts, currently the 2.4gig new unibody macbook is in the refurb store for just over 1,300 euros, a saving of about 195 euros off the official store price. brings it a lot closer to sterling price if thats your way of thinking about it
