Toyota Corrolla 07-Question about restarting car

I bought an 07 corrolla last summer, only 11 months old and I am extremely pleased with it. I bought it from a reputable Toyota dealer.

One thing I have noticed if I start it, no problem, it starts straight away, even in the coldest weather, but say, if I drive just 2 or 3 minutes up to the shops, stop, then after about 10 or 15 minutes when errands are done, I start it up again, it is like it struggles for a few minutes, before engaging.......this problem does not arise if say, I travel the 20 miles to work, and start it again even after a minute. Have I got a battery problem, or am I doing something wrong. Now, if I have a short journey to go, I usually start it up and I let the engine heat up and then no problem.

    Any ideas? :(

By a few minutes, do you mean it wont start for a few minutes or it just takes a few seconds of turning over before it fires up?

Petrol or diesel, 1.4, 1.6 or 2 litre?

The car is running rich because it's cold and when you drive it for a short distance you are partially flooding it. Only way around it is to go to a shop further away/let car run for a minumum of 5-10 min or else walk. All cars will do this, it's just more noticable now that it's colder then usual.

Sorry, just to clarify- it struggles a bit to restart for a few seconds. We also have an Avensis and there doesn't seem to be the same problem. Both petrol cars

Yea, I have now come to starting it for about 5 mins before I leave house if I am shopping in the village. Other than that, I have no complaints about the car, it is economical and comfortable.

Don't press the accelerator when starting, this may be the cause?
