Most of the really good modern synths have arps. Some of them are straight forward like in Sylenth. But if you want something deep and full of options, then maybe check out Zebra 2.

I love both of those softsynths.

Might also be worth looking into Albino, Massive, FM8.

I agree with Sean too. Predator is a great all-rounder and packed full of nice presets.

ye, I might try predator... just reading up on it now, I have an Access Virus TI with a lovely arp on it, but I find that I use the software plugins with Logic 8 now more than the hardware that I have...

    wtf????
the virus ti is so much nicer sounding than any plugin (bar the arturia ones maybe).

I have come up with some really cool sounds from the soft synths that come with Logic, then tweaking them some more with all the additional plugins, and as such, the Access Virus TI just sits there doing nothing....

Logic it's self has a decent enough Arp.. See article below :-

I would have taught that the Virus was a complete beast of a unit, my mate has the keyboard version and the filters are amazing on it.

I see you have been offered a minimoog for the virus on adverts.ie

It is a beast... it pumps out some amazing sounds BUT.... most of the tracks I have done I have simply used whatever is bundled with Logic Studio, and I am happy to be using the soft synths.

It makes me very sad to think of a virus sitting gathering dust. I don't understand not using it when it integrates so easily into ur sequencer just as if it was a plugin.

I might give the Rob Papen Predator a try

You must not neglect to check out Sylenth. Just make sure to listen to it, and ignore the ugly GUI.

sylenth is okay, not really as good as people make out imo.id pick predator over it.to be honest though none of them are even close to the virus.figure out how to use it would be my suggestion even if your happy with what logics inbuilt synths do(i use them alot also, there really good)

I respectfully disagree with Sean on that.
    sylenth is okay
Sylenth is in my opinion, one of the top 10 virtual analogues out there (including soft and hardware) You can stack a load of waveforms, detune the **** out of them, and put them through the beautiful sounding filters, without even tickling your CPUs feet. The results are stunning, and working with it is a dream.
none of them are even close to the virus
I don't hear anything in the Virus sound that can't be done in a good modern VST. It was different a couple of years ago, but in the last 2 years we have been given a cornucopia of amazing VSTs to choose from.

In my opinion it is the Virus which is overrated. It sounds good, but lots of soft synths (Sylenth, Zebra, Massive) are capable of as much as the Virus, and much more besides.
The hands on control is where it shines IMO, but that's not worth 1-2k for me.

Here are some samples from Sylenth.
Decent examples of how it can do "phat" trance and "biting" analogue:

    http://www.arksun-sound.com/music/sylenth1_arksun_soundbank.mp3

Some will like them, some wont. Maybe it's more a subjective thing, but head over to the Lennar Digital section of KVR and you will find a handful of X Virus, and X Nord owners who are very happy bunnys.

You'll also find my custom Sylenth skins

    :D
womoma is right its personal preference but i put sylenth up against my jp8000 and it sounds inferior(as does predator).ive only demoed the virus in a store but i really liked it.i do agree that softsynths sound great these days and i use softsynths alot(well ive only got 1 hardware synth).
i dunno i just dont really think sylenth is as great as alot of others.sylenth is good but wouldnt be a high recommendation for me(but whos listening to me :P)
seems like theres a divide though, people seem to like alot of synths other people dont.zebra for example is horrible for me but loads of people rave about it,same for operator and massive.
that being said i never get too deep with my synthesis,i normally dont put many effects on my sounds, delays and reverbs seem to be the most used for me and lfos so maybe people are into the routing and flexibility of synths but not me(yet)
anyway if you can demo them do that and decide for yourself as everyones opinions are different.the jupiter emanulation is also a good one
on a side note im surprised noone has recommended omnisphere.
(edit:also for got to mention, nice use of the word cornucopia womoma :) )

    My top soft synths-

Massive- Does everything and sounds huge
    Z3tA+ - Fat and nasty
Minimonsta- Sounds like a moog, on speed.
Sylenth - Sounds like a virus, or a pimped out nord, or most good VAs
Albino - Juicy sqelchy silky bubbly warm and gooey
    Arturia synths - Pure class

Predator wouldnt even come into the equation for me anyway unless I just wanted a load of presets but thats just my opinion. Virus is brilliant but no point keeping it if youre not using it. Sylenth is a good recommendation if you like the virus sound. Massive is a beast if you have a fast computer.

I think its still fashionable to say you have hardware. Apart from using a real moog or something theres nothing wrong with doing it in the box, its all DSP in the end.

    the iMac is fast enough....

I could buy the hardware synths if I wanted to, I like the the Waldorfs... especially this one

    wald_wave.jpg

But... I really don't care what I use so long as the end result is exactly how I want it to be... and so far, Logic and it's standard kit works very well, just want to add some more soft synths.

I have put the Virus into action to get the bass or leads that I want and I feel that I can achieve the results I want with soft synths just as easily,

well he wanted an arp so predator would be a great recommendation.saying you have hardware coz its fashionable is a bit of a ridiculous thing to say IMO.dont know what you mean by that

A Mate of mine was in the veggie restaurant of the same name in town once & was listening to Radiohead on his iPod..

He turned around & guess who was standing there beside him.. Thom Yorke.

Strange but true. Apologies for bringing it off on a tangent.. LOL :pac:

    My 2 cents..

This will show you how to add an arp into the Logic enviroment for use with any synth.

You'll also be able to edit the midi notes.

erm... Virus ti is a great tool - even the exporting the arpeggiator (which sylenth doesn't do :( ) - also having had both at different points i would say that sylenth give you more detune supersaw-insanity than a virus - BUT, virus can be twisted to do much, much more than sylenth can ever even dream of doing - you need to sit down with your virus for longer if it's not making you drool.

Sylenth is my number 1 though... Access couldn't get the OS stable and i sent mine back to Turnkey (the week later they went bust) - and Access should be slapped as for a YEAR they said they wern't aware of the problems i was constantly having with the virus (making me look like a troll) and then finally after i sent it back a month later they address the very issues i was fighting with... for the cost of this item it was an absolute pi$$ take for the problems with the vst side to be so messed up.

Massive is incredible also, but for totally different sounds - nice and chunky :)

    BUT

You have all forgotten VANGUARD - which if you sit down with it for enough time makes some of the most awesome lead sounds... none of the software synths i've tried really get close to the unique textureu that vanguard offers... and it's sooooooooooo cheap. In fact i think my all time favourite softsynth noise came from vanguard...

    blah,blah,blah,blah.. your'e still reading this? :)

just another opinion but i thought vanguard was the biggest pile of crap.but again horses for courses and all that:D
