Monitor has gone dull / distorted

When I booted up this morning there was interference on the monitor and the contrast had changed i.e. the background is no longer crisp and white is no longer crisp. It is actually quite difficult to look at as there seems to be a lot of glare.

Sounds like it's on it's way out I'm afraid, how old is it? You could check the pins on the cable that connects into the P.C. one of them may be bent, other than that I don't think there is much you can do, you might check the video card is seated properly but I am clutching at straws with that one!
