X music is the name they have a 20000 ft premises and compete with the internet market, lovely guys there to, they have a website so give them a ring, your dreams are now a reality.

They certainly won't compete with the internet market unless they get their website finished. It is inconceivable that it is not done yet and makes me wonder if they know what they are doing at all. After the investment in stock/premises and even fancy jeeps with the logo on the side they seem to have their priorities completely wrong. The website should have come first.
I hope it works out for them but they stand little to no chance of competing with the UK/German stores until they get their website to a pro level where the customer can see what's in stock, order it and get it within a couple of days. An integrated system that handles stock control, credit card transactions, handles orders and prints shipping labels is very expensive but essential to what they are trying to achieve.
I have been meaning to go over for a look but without knowing what they have in stock there is no point in wasting my time sitting in a queue at the mad cow.

    I hear ya tiger :)

Yeah you are 100% spot on, without a decent web site they have no way of competing against the likes of DV who have their website nailed. There is no excuses they should have just contracted an amazing web developer and got that sorted. Hoarses for courses all the same, the fact is they are behind the red cow and they are nice guys but this thread should be locked as we as a forum have kicked this goat in the head way too much, I am sure we all agree. OP check them out but there was many thousands of posts on this topic in the music production forum and there are a few very unhappy campers! The fact is people started posting silly posts like 'can you get a vox ac30 there?' like we care or work for them so people got fed up and the X music thread was locked up. The key was thrown down a dark sewage pipe, it rusted away. None of us on her taught the key would ever be found and you yes you OP found it and now you have unleashed the beast that is 'X' music. Trackmix, pass me the rifle I have had enough. OP it's not your fault you did nothing wrong, I just can't....

I think the last update from them was that the site is fully developed and ready, it's just not going online until they build up stock levels after the X-Mas rush...

No idea why it's taking so long though...

I havent been to the shop yet, as I did all my XMas music purchases online from Dolphin, but it would be interesting to see how many people are out on the shop floor at XMusic vs. the one guy entering the stock.. Then realising if you want seriously want to compete with the online retailers, you might actually need an online site people can use.

I would imagine if its successful it should generate a lot more revenue than footfall into the shop would, and as a result should be a much higher priority than it currently is..

Then again, they have been in that business for years and I haven't :p

From the amount of stuff they get from us they seem to be doing pretty good!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,171 ✭✭✭af_thefragile

I'm gonna be getting a new Fender Telecaster soon so they better have a good competitive price for it as now i can get it incredibly cheap off dolphin cuz of the low pound...

This is like one of those Alien films. You think the monsters have been destroyed but........................

The website, when finished, could have it's very own X-Music forum.

But it's all relative isn't it..

I make no claims about their business and or their business model, because i have no visibility into their revenue, but I would imagine if you are going to compete (as they have said) with the big online retailers then you need to keep a equivalent high level of stock turnover so you can lower prices to equivalent levels..

Would their current footfall be equivalent to what Thomann, Dolphin etc. ship via their online sites? I don't imagine it is..

but hey, its very very early days for them, and we know the online site is being addressed :) so fair play to them for making the effort and giving us some more choice.. I hope they can make a great success of it :)

I for one.. do plan on paying a visit and having a good look around sometime soon.. as a Tiny Terror amp is on the cards :)

    Boardsloser1000.

You're very welcome to post here with Music Production related posts. However I do note that this is your First post which makes me wonder did you join to take the pizz.

Trackmix was expressing an opinion which he is, of course, allowed to do.
He's a guy who has made many informative posts.

    You've made none....

of course i just signed up to take the piss out of something which is only screaming out to be made issue of!
and although i may be taking the piss, it's still just an opinion which i am expressing.
it just seems funny to put such a decisive post as Trakmix did, slamming that new store about their web site when his own is non-existant.
sometimes i guess, it's probably best to take one's own advise on board (no pun intended!)
not trying to wreck your head, just calling it as i see it.

    Amigo

Trackmix is booked up recording until the middle of this year so essentially he doesn't need a website. In the recording industry your work and good name gets you work, not your website. Yes it is nice to have a website but thats only for when clients ask like mine did last week 'have you got a website?' You see everyone here would like to see X music do very well because we as producers would buy our equipment directly from X music as opposed to waiting a week or two for internet delivery. However it is important to point out that if they had a better website they would have much more business and happier customers. When customers are happy they become loyal customers.

Trackmix is clearly entitled to say what he wants because he is the kind of cat that would spend an awful lot of money on equipment if he knew the shop had what he was looking for... How is he supposed to know what a shop has without a decent online web site? Do you expect any of us around here to be put on hold on the phone????

Traxmix isn't trying to beat Thomann. Xmusic are, and a site to compete online has been promised too. Your points are irrelevant (and smelling of a competitor).

screaming out to be made issue of!

I disagree that it's screaming to be made an issue of - well certainly not in my world.

As I say, you're very welcome to join us and hopefully you'll have much to contribute.

However, starting your posts with the tone you have will probably turn people against you, which neither of us want.

Healthy discussion is welcomed and disagreements are part of that - however civility is part of all discussions here.

Why don't you post something in the Introduction Sticky and lets hear some of your musical interests?

If this thread goes off on one, I've already my finger on the Lock Thread button.

    This old chestnut eh?
The site will go live when we are ready to provide the level of profesional service that we think people deserve. ie Everything is in place.

    End of story.

As to our new posters who are defending us by slagging Trackmix/Instrumental. Thanks but no thanks.

While I appreciate the huge task involved in getting the site up live, you must accept the customer frustration in waiting and the different information being given out in the shop regarding time frame for launching the site.
Also I think particular emphasis should have been given to follow up on queries as in those phone calls that were not returned. All in all an extremely annoying experience for those of us waiting to spend our cash in X-Music.Any chance of setting a deadline for site launch and informing us all, then everybody knows where we stand.

I just thought it was boring with the 'Does anyone know if they have any <fill in blank> guitars ?'

This is a Music Prod forum and when the comments regarding X where in that vein it was fine, but it was well past it's sell by date - remember too it was me that started it .... and I did ask did anyone object to it's termination - you were silent Phoenix3!

We might as well have a Walton's thread and Music Maker thread or Gawd Forbid an Audio Warehouse thread...:o

By all means discuss things when they're current, but that just turned into an In Grown Toe Nail of a Thread ...

    Paul,
I don't know you and I've never met you but for some reason(instinct) I have the height of respect for you .

I am happy to get down on my knees and agree that I did not object to you locking the post.(I don't do extras).

Yes the topic could be any other music co.. But this is different, look at the hype created with the announcement of X-Music.Look at the way we all re-acted to the announcement.Look at the way we all wanted to support X-Music rather than buy on-line.Look at the dissapointment we have all faced.Look at the space we have given them to get the act right.Look at all the times we have forgiven them for their sins.

While I fully accept your path on the subject,my feeling is we let the topic run it's course.

Thanks Paul for your time given to Boards.(hopefully this avoids me getting banned.)
