As some of you may have noticed Aer Lingus are having a sale on right now and I was thinking of booking flights seeing as I want to go to America in the summer for a a month but do people on here reckon they'll have another sale in Spring?

As far as I remember they did last year...

I'd say they probably will, and maybe another mid summer if flights are not selling well. An Aer Lingus flight to the US I took last year was cut to about half price a month before it left because of low take up of seats.

as previous reply, i think we will offer it again. I booked for NY for mid September yesterday for €366 each return and when i got choose our seats, the plane was practically empty. I've been watching prices for this trip since last autumn ... and it has gone up and down (for off peak times)from €600 down to €450. Over the years, anytimne i've goine to Boston or NY, the cheapest i've ever paid is over €400.

This was the first time i saw them offer seats for €366 rtn including all fees & taxes. I don't really think they will get any cheaper than this to be honest ... remember aerlingus removed fuel surcharges before xmas as the price of fuel dropped, this is why they can sell them so cheap just now ... but the price of oil is creeping back up and this may result in fuel surcharges being re-introduced in the next few weeks/months. My advice would be to book now if you can, I don't think you'll get a better deal

An internal memo said they broke their own records this year on forward bookings during the sale. On the last day alone they had something like 63,000 bookings. To put it in perspective this memo also said that this beat the previous record of 61,000 bookings set earlier in the week. Better to book early I would say if you are going to one of the 'holiday hotspots', especially if during the peak seasons.

They definitely had a sale at the start of the Summer last year, I remember because I was kicking myself that my flight prices dropped. I would be suprised if they didn't have a sale this summer as I would imagine traveller numbers are down.

Where and when are you thinking of going? If you don't mind holding on and taking a risk, you could prob get a bargain. Me, I'm hyper organised and just couldn't wait til the last minute to book (I booked flights for August at the start of December!)

I know this isnt related to the air lingus sale but just to give you an idea of the industry at the moment.

I booked on friday night return flights from Dublin to SFO 14/2/09 - 19/02/09 for myself and the missus for €663.16 all in for both of us with delta.

This is a ridiculous price when I went over last may it cost over €700 for myself return.

Not sure what way the rest of the year is going but it may be worth your while holding on as long as possible quite a risk but the possible savings could be pretty good.

    Just my thoughts.

Got an email today about further reductions.

Played about with the dates on the website and was able to get flights in late April to Chicago or NY for E230 per person return all in. Serious value imo.

I was hoping to go to Boston with the family in Mid-late July. Do you think I would be better off waiting to see if there is a sale, or is that time of year/that route not likely to have a sale?

At the moment, prices at that time are coming in at €636 per seat.

Seems dear, I'd wait. Did you check United Airlines?

I got Chicago for €226 in April with Aerlingus.

    Thanks for the reply ateam.

I tried United as you suggested but no luck.

I can get €528 per person round trip to Boston in mid July on ebookers via British Airways. That seems to be the cheapest I can find at the moment.

Anyone any previous experience of getting cheaper than that, say last summer?

How likely is a reduction in prices much below €528

(I know it's a bit of an impossible question to answer - just looking for opinions/guesses etc.:) )

United had a sale in early january, so you missed out.
Many people got cheap flights last year to the States from May onwards, i got mine for €215 return to Boston. Search the BargainAlerts forum for the very long cheaptickets.com thread
You're better off waiting a few months

I booked flights for NY in May and the plane was half full at the seat selection screen, that's pretty good considering that's over 4 months away.

You're kind of betting against yourself if you didn't book flights during an Aer Lingus sale I reckon, you're only going to lose.

I was speaking to a guy on the BMI flight to Heathrow yesterday, he was off to San fran for €283 return with united through heathrow. it works out quite well apparantly as united use terminal one now so there is no terminal change.

Check the flights you want every day. One day they will go up by 40%. Then the following day Aer Lingus will start. There will be 30% off.
