This seems like the place to put this, apologies if its not.

Can somebody with absolutely no voice benefit from vocal lessons? Could they be made into a decent singer?

I've been thinking about starting some lessons but I don't think I'd bother if it's not going to help. All the people I know who go to vocal lessons already have decent voices.

Yes, and yes, as long as the lessons are good and you practice them properly. Anyone who can talk can sing. You just have to learn how to connect with your vocal system properly to do it well, otherwise all the practice in the world will make no difference.

Sweet. I may have to give them a try. Do you know how long it would take to sound any way okay? (trying to work out the monies needed).

When I started, I had to unlearn a few bad habits so it seemed like I was going backwards for a little while. But I'd noticed a serious improvement after six months. I wouldn't suggest taking a break from lessons so early though. At least a year, anyway.

There's a guy in the Abbey School of Music (Abbey st Dublin, above bagel factory) that does them. Nice guy and a great voice!

I've been meaning to speak to him about lessons. I do my bass lessons in there with another guy. :)
