    Hi there,
Just new to stalking in connaught and have some questions that you may be able to help with:
1 Anyone know date for next HCAP MCQ?
    2. I have access to 2 lots of land for shooting 180 acres and around 300 [fallow & red] - should this be enough for NPWS?
    3. What does nominated Stalker mean in respect of Coillte land?
    4. Need to change rifle. Seem to have setteled on a .270 and am looking for a LH Bolt, Synethic stock, detachable mag, no front sight & preferable pre-threaded; I like quality but dont want to break bank altogether - any ideas?
    5. Saw an ad for IOR Scopes by Border Barrells in Scotland in Sporting Rifle. They look to have simaral quality as S&B, Zeiss, Leuopold etc but way cheaper. One I looking at is 6-24x50 with a 35mm tube (rings supplied) w/ parallex adj & illuminated recticle for £STG 595 - has anyone heard or know of this make/model?

    Any advice is appriciated.

The IOR scope is a very good quality scope, but this 6-24 is heavy as hell.
Magnification is over the top unless you want to do headshots at 900m.
If you have mainly open terrain a 3-12 or 4-12x50 would be good.
A swarovski 4-12x50 a-line weighs a tick und 400grams compared to I think over a kilo for the IOR.
A lightish handy rifle has advantages for stalking, sometimes shots can be close and off-hand.
As the first scope on a stalking rifle I would advise 8x56 fixed, lets you concentrate on the shot and not fiddle on some knobs until the deer is gone.
