So, what got you into MMA?
    For me it was K1.
I cut my Martial Arts teeth on Karate, before moving on to boxing and kickboxing.

Since then I've ran the gamut, from JJ to set sparring, Kendo to MMA in general, but as much as I like the ground game, striking is always gonna be my first love.

K1 caught my imagination straight off as a young man.

I started watching K1 while Hoost and Aerts were in their prime, and before Le Banner had the horrible breaks which cost him so much.

I loved watching the boxers/kick boxers/Thai boxers/Karate/Taekwando fighters etc all come together and put it to the test.

K1 is still the biggest sport in Japan, and if anybody here is unfamiliar with it, (I know that most of ye know all about it:p), I deffinately advise you give it a go.

Not as complete as MMA, obviously, but the striking skills of K1 are a step above anything in MMA.
Crocop was a middling K1 fighter, but decimated in MMA with his K1 level striking.
When you don't have to worry about takedowns, or submissions, the real striking can come forth.

    God I love K1!!!:D

At first, even as an MMA fan, I always preferred K1.
Not because I've anything against the ground game, I love JJ/BJJ/Sambo but I started on the striking and it'll always be the main thing for me.

When I first started in Kyokushin the late Andy Hug quickly became one of my heroes.

I've also had the pleasure of meeting and training with Sem Schilt while at a Kyokushin training camp in Croatia in summer '07.

Can't believe nobody mentioned "sugarfoot". Ray Sefo has to be one of the best K1 fighters that never won a Grand Prix.

one of the le banner classics was against Abidi, he could have finished Abidi but didn't cause he just wanted to drag it out...

k1 is pretty entertaining, it's invariably the same 10 or so fighters fighting each other for a short number of rounds.

A lot of new faces in K1 these days, and for the first time they have a proper bad guy.

Hoost is gone, and the late great Andy (Samurai) Hug is sadly missed.
Aerts is at the end of his great career, and with Le Banner (as much as I hate to say it), close to the end too.
Sefo hasn't got long left either IMO, but still has the touch.
Schilt seems set on moving full time to MMA.
    Musashi is 36 now.
    Hunt tried a comeback.

Most of the old guard are gone or going.

The next generation however are coming on strong.
Bonjasky, who's been around for so long, he should be older than he is, is still only just 33.
Badr Hari may be an idiot, and a prick, but he has undeniable talent.
Saki, Slowinski, Karaev, Choi, Arrab, Zimmerman, Teixeira, all young and talented.

K1 did suffer a bit with Schilt being so dominant, but I recon it's about to pick up again.

This is one of the few Irish K-1 Fighters. And ps not Hoost.

Bet you if we looked hard enough, we'd find Hoosts half Surinamese half Irish grandmother!:D

Its a shame we dont get to see more K1 because it is very good and exciting.

Also I met Semmy Schilt on Saturday after UFC 93

yeah Ray is a good show man with some classic bouts, but it's time to call it a day, he just doesn't have the gas anymore.

K1 was something i never really paid much attention to until last year.

    I'm hooked now :D

i dont prefer mma to k1 or vice versa, but i have to say I do like the rules in k1 regards the clinch / knock downs etc and the open scoring system they recently put in place.

true that lost a lot of fights in the last while summit like six in a row, he trains at couture's now, he's 37 might be a bit long in the tooth for pure striking maybe he should take another mma bout.

    K1 max is great alright.
Too dominated by Muay Thai for my liking though.
    Not as dynamic.

What??? Sower is a shooto fighter, Masato is a kickboxer and Krauss...is slugger a sport lol :pac:
They all train and compete in Muay Thai because it allows them the freedom they need in K1 like knees and combos. It doesnt matter to the heavyweights because one slap can win it for anyone!
K1 max rules!!! If shilts wasnt in the heavyweights it would be as goos as it used to be but he just cuts through everyone because of his size:rolleyes:
