I thought it was very good, well written and good to know he wrote it himself.

It spoke very much to the current world situation but had a few parts that could stand the test of time.

The man has a talent for public speaking, much unlike his predecessor. Maybe this guy will manage not to choke on a pretzel whilst watching the superbowl next week.

Went a bit too patriotic, "we're great, everyone be very afraid of us" for my liking but then that was addressed only at people who deserve to be afraid of him.

He kept it as real as possible given that he was speaking to a nation that likes to be able to pat themselves on the back for even farting in the wind!

It was better than anything Bush has ever said tbh.

Obama got the oath right it was the guy who was wearing him in who ****ed it up. Interestingly Obama voted against his nomination. Payback perhaps?

Ahhm well it must be true so  I dunno, pair of them in it I thought. Chief justice corrected himself and Obama continued to read back the wrong way round. Edit: Not really his fault though http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=A_9TLuqvyP8

Biden repeated the thing wrong too, missed a whole word and jumped the gun on reading back at least once.

    Dumb Americans :P

I wonder will the speech appear better to some after it has been dissected and dispensed in sound bite form.

I thought the speech was quite good. We had the tv turned on in our office and almost everybody came out to watch President Obama be sworn into office and the inaugural address. It moved a few coworkers to tears.

No, he's the 44th and he said it afterwards.

What he did say - or someone else possibly who spoke, dunno - was that the power had been transferred 44 times. That's 43 allright.

Given that he is the 44th President of the U.S. and A he would be correct.

Well, it depends on how you look at it. Grover Cleveland is counted twice, as the 22nd and 24th president. So technically, only 43 Americans have taken the oath of office.

There has been 44 presidents including Obama but Grover Cleveland was Presedent twice so only 43 people have been President

Actually it's 45 since both Cleveland and Taft are each counted as 2x Americans. Taft could've been counted as 3x really.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,407 ✭✭✭gerky

Yea but if he said 43 most people would think it was wrong as he is the 44th president.

That's another common misconception. Taft's oath of office and inauguration were not counted twice, despite the inauguration of a new White House bath tub at the same time. President Taft was a bit too much President for the outgoing White House bath tub. :D

People talk about bushisms but Obama went right ahead and screwed up the oath of office and at one stage said "I will execute" - who? Osama bin laden? What was with all the old idiots with black hats all that was missing was that WUM Al Sharpton. In 4 years time they will look back on both Dubya and "Bam" (as they are calling him) and say man we though Bush was bad then we got a total idiot, who literally screwed up from day 1.

He didn't screw up the oath of office, the man reading it to him did.

Execute is a verb meaning to kill or to accomplish.

    Sentence:

"I executed a badass jump earlier on with my skipping-rope."

So as you can see, Obama has done nothing wrong. So far.
