What was the first ever website you clicked onto when you first tried the internet?

I think mine was rotten.com at a friends house when i was like 14 or 15 , 9 years ago! It was fairly popular back in the day! Filled with autopsies and other sick stuff!

So when that dial-up finally got going after about 20 minutes of waiting and you had the freedom of the whole interweb at your fingertips what words did you type into the searchbar?

It was bolt.com. I was 14 or 15 at the time and I used the internet from the local library. Someone had set it as the homepage on the computer. It was a lot like this site but aimed at teens. I actually started using the site regularly for a few years.

I posted this in "cool vids & pics" forum a little while back.
Must see viewing for internet nostalgia:

    http://www.archive.org/web/web.php

Its a web archive search engine. Type in any website address and you can see what the site looked like at a date in the past. The RTE website back in 1996 resembles Aertel teletext. Check what was in the news on CNN on a chosen date or have a laugh at the primitive boards.ie . Early internet porn was ridiculous...

    Enjoy ;)

Hotmail.com I think followed by some wrestling news site (someone had taken my name, but I got it eventually).
Was around the time of the Monday night wars (which will be gibberish to all but wrestling fans).

i remember looking for gophers in '98 and not being able to get into them for some reason. although i do remember looking at 1 or 2 of them back in the day on my 486 and thinking 'is that all?' i was expecting a full blown virtual reality thing from the obscure gopher:// thing. now i run my own gopher server for nostalgic reasons :)

Do Bulletin Boards count ? If so then I can't remember which one would've been my first, whole plethora of them from my Amiga days, Forbidden Planet being one of the most memorable.

If they don't count then accessing the web on Lynx browser via dialup into some Unix system and getting all nerdy giggly reading boring US uni sites.

Proper graphical browsing I first did via Mosaic Browser on the Amiga, the first site opened probably aminet.net which I still have bookmarked and view, for nostalgia reasons mostly.

EDIT: Thinking of the Amiga, I just realised I got my first one in 1986 which is like 23 years ago along with an acoustic modem a couple years later in a wooden case/box and well now I feel really fkin old :(
